Better than a fund would be someone who knew how to negotiate with the hospital. Even with small bills I've been able to knock 40% off, esp if insurance paid the main bulk. Not sure what the exact stats are, but they often sell non-collects to collection firms at (I believe) 10 cents on the dollar. Offering 11 cents makes them money.

just like credit card debt! LOL! the debt-slave ponzi economy....hope Art's affluent father can muscle the collections depts...

heal up Art!

After my high side at the track a few years ago, I went to the ER to get checked out and they offered me like a 70% discount off the bill if I could pay the same day. So theres definitely room for negotiation.

Man, I tried to get my sons bill down and they said"we do not ad fees or interest, just pay what you can when you can". So I just paid the bill and full and was done with it. My son is doing well now (had some crazy rare virus, was seen by 15+ doctors to figure it out).

Good to hear Art is pulling through. Health should be the focus now. Bills will sort themselves out when that time comes.

Art is fully alert. Eating solid foods.

Moving him to a rehab center. Hopefully they will get the arm issue diagnosed soon so they can treat it.

Lucky lucky guy. He was not expected to survive. Tough! He had some good doctors as well.

Im sure he will be back on the forum soon enough. Looking forward to hearing from him.

Hell yeah man.

This should be a wake-up call for some of us who ride kinda careless, in particular on public roads. We can take as well as get our lives taken in the blink of an eye. Our hobby is dangerous enough. We shouldn't be willing to push the limits. It's dangerous enough just riding defensively. Respect the power between our legs each n every time we throw our leg over any two wheeler. We're the ones most vulnerable on public roads.

Good news that he's aware and back to recovery.

A month in the hospital is absolutely no joke.

Glad to hear he's doing well.

.....biting tongue regarding "dangerous" assertion........

Hes back at home now. Right arm still not functioning. But is getting surgery on it.

He has posted on facebook. Seems to be doing ok.

Yes. Brachial plexis injury. They were waiting to see if any movement came back. None yet. Surgery needs to be done to reconnect nerves.

He responds on facebook sometimes. But he only has one arm to type.

I wish he would come on here and tell us himself. But he has a lot to deal with. I get it.

Mate the same thing happen to him, still rides and can ride, never let an impairment stop you doing what you love. All the best to Art and his recovery, here's some inspiration for him.

There is a guy in Australia racing with one arm and one leg. Both got ripped off in an accident while riding on the road. He got sideswiped by a car and it ripped one arm and one leg off on the same side. I have only seen him on tv but gotta give him points for guts.

I thought I had it hard when my foot was nearly torn off in a bike accident with a car when I was 18.

Whats up everybody?! Wow...just wow. First off, thank you all from the bottom of my heart for even caring enough to keep up with my recovery. To be completely honest with you all, i havent been on the forum because I didn't think anyone would be keeping up with my story. It's extremely flattering. So i read through the entire thread and i will try my best to hit a few key points i noticed. Finance: I'm going to be fine. My father is very graciously helping me. I am extremely fortunate in that respect, as well as many others which i will explain in further detail. I also have very good health insurance. At the time of the accident, yes, i lived at home in search of a new apartment. I had a very destructive, violent roomate i had to get away from. I hadn't lived at home since i was 18 prior to the 2 weeks before my accident. I am 28 years old now. I had a nice new Arai on at the time of my accident. It saved my life. I never rode without a helmet. Ever. I had puma/ducati riding shoes, jeans, and a Ducati T on. Gloves as well, but no jacket. My injuries were severe indeed. I coded twice. They had to put 39 liters of fluid in me just to keep my blood pressure up enough to keep my heart beating. After they stopped the internal bleeding, after the thorocotomy (if thats how you spell it lol) there was too much fluid in me. I looked like the michilin man. It was crazy looking. So...they had to cut me completely open from the top of my abdomin all the way past my belly button. My intestines were out for 2 weeks. It was wild. I have pics! After that, they had to use a witemans patch to gradually crank my rib cage closed day by day, little by little. It honestly goes on and on...trach, 10 compressed vertebrae, 2 fractured, collapsed lung, broke every single rib on my right side, and then the kicker...the Bracial plexus injury. My right shoulder, arm and hand is completely paralyzed. I had a nerve graft surgery, but the best it could ever be is a "helper arm". Not looking too good. I wasn't on the Duc. It was in the shop. I was on my buddies S1000rr (ahh! Don't be mad at me!!). For legalities sake, i am not going to get into the topic of fault, substance use of any sort etc etc, but i WILL say the media is disgusting. Absolutely and completely slanderous and erroneous. Its sad. The whole thing is just a massivly sad ordeal. For legalities sake once again, i cannot discuss the other young man involved but will just say, its tragic. Its just FUBAR accross the board, it really is. I am writing all of this from my phone, and am losing track of where i am in my explanation, but please feel free to ask anything you want other than possible substances, or the other gentleman involved (legalities once again) and i will be more than happy to answer! Thank you all so much for your concern and for your support. It really means more than you know.

Oh shoot, the media said that I had a DUI in the past. I have never had an alcohol related charge ever in my life. I can't believe something like that can actually legally be said when it's completely erroneous. That is crazy to me, but what's done is done. Here is a picture of me after all of the fluids were drained and my stomach/rib cage still wide open. I've almost got a six pack again after my abs were completely severed. LOTS of training for that lol.
