Horn and Signal Issues

Dealer says there is no Recall

I just called my dealer here in Houston. They dont have any recall and knows nothing about this type of issue. I told them I that I cant bring the bike in because it will work and it happens randomly. So now I will have to wait for it to happen while I am on the road. Bring it in to the dealer and hope that he can figure out why because once you turn off the bike and wait 5-10 mins it starts working.

Argghhh......

This sounds like it's related to the same issue when the bike randomly cuts out in traffic. I can't replicate the problem, it just happens when it's ready to happen.

Has anyone had this problem yet on an 1199R?

Just curious as I'm not exactly in the hottest part of the country but I plan on moving back to Dallas this summer.

Hopefully we have the latest dash version....or whatever...and it is fixed.

Gotta get my oar in the water here to advise that I had the right directional/top button malfunction today. Soon after beginning the ride, I noticed that the right directional didn't work. Later, when I stopped to refuel, I couldn't cycle through the various odometers with the top button to reset mileage. All other systems were functioning properly. After I returned home and the bike had been shut down for awhile, I went back out to the garage, turned on the key, ... and everything worked normally.

this is exactly what I have......i have the dealerships demo base model and its back in to replace the fork seals.....leaking crazy....after i put 200mi on the bike and I told them about this. Tech said they emailed Ducati NA waiting for an answer. I told them I want the bike back this weekend either way after the seals are replaced....Im not letting them keep my bike when its nice out. i will signal right with my arm for the weekend.....
There really ought to be a way to fix the mileage instead of having to reset to 0. i mean i only have 1000mi on the bike.....

This happens to me all the time and I just thought it was normal. I don't have a signal or horn issue, but can't cycle through the trip meters and reset when stopped and bike is off/not running. It has to be running/moving. Did you get this sorted out?

Frankly, if i take the bike out, after riding for a while the failure of horn, RHS indicator and ado/Tripx's scroll button all RE_SURFACE. When the bike cools down and then RECOVERY of these after each subsequent Key on.

is a life gamble to ride in the night without indicator lamps...you might get clip...

I'm betting the heat is the culprit and the solid state driver which drives the indicator lamp, located in the dash ECU goes into over-temperature shutdown to protect itself. This feature is commonly seen in a solid state driver.Link is an example of such driver

From the wiring harness diagram in the rider's manual, LHS scroll switches and indicator switch (ITEM 53),these request goes directly into the dash ECU,the ECU knows the request but the solid state driver for the FRONT RHS indicator lamp (ITEM 59), is too hot to turn on.

The separate driver for the REAR RHS indicator is located in the BBS or (ITEM19,slave) which it gets the request to turn on from the dash ECU(its master) via the CAN. Fantastic ...complicating things, further.

The dash ECU and the BBS or Vehicle control unit are of plastic casing instead or metal made/jacket,which means they could not really pull/conduct the heat out from the printed circuit board on which the solid state driver are mounted on. Therefore over-temp shutdown occurrence.

Other modules like rectifier/regulator,Engine control ECU, ABS all have metal case and cooling fins to cool off better.

Ducati should set-up a specific task force to investigate this seriously.this is overdue..

What build date are you seeing on the R?

The reason the horn goes out is cause of the wiring. It's to short so when you turn the wheel to the right it starts sliding off the connection. My dealer knew bout the blinker problem an are replacing the ecu for it. I'll have to inform them about the horn issue and have them fix the wiring for it

Thanks for your info. I was thinking about the heat issue and agree with you. If the ECU has this problem, all the connections and others might go wrong. It would be disaster. Since the heat causes the shutdown, DUCATI can solve this issue quickly by changing the case or redesign. Or, we might be able to block the heat using some insulators.

I dropped off my Pani 3 weeks before and I haven't gotten any response. I'll bring it back and enjoy, instead.

Thanks again!!

Freaking hot yesterday in SoCal. 95+ in desert. No problems with my Pani on 30 mile ride, half in traffic. It was built March 2013. I think they for the most part have worked out all the stuff I've been reading about here, except for the crazy heat near my knees.

Isn't this the solution fo blinker problems. I experienced it yesterday on an extended ride in 90 degree weather. Calling dealer tomorrow an asking hem to look at tsb 881

Yes thats the fix...just had it done as well as the heat shield and ecu download to smooth out the hitch @4k rpm. 90+ ambient air temps, approx 200 mi. ride, no problems so far.

The heat shield wasn't needed and will be replaced with the old one..

Hi l have been waiting for 5 weeks, just got a phone call today and was told that the replacement will not be the dash now it will be a ECU wire that goes to the dash that should fix the problem.

Forza..I got mine done at Bob Lunsford on 45. Call Kevin in service and tell him you need to get the left hand wiring fix. Ride the bike in so that they can verify it. They may have to order the part..takes a few days to get.
