How hot is V2?

Hi! I'm a newbie rider from S.Korea.
I've been riding Yammy R3 for a year as my first bike and now I'm looking for an upgrade :)
I'm on the fence to get V2, V4, V4 SF, or new s1000rr.

I saw the new white colorway of V2 and it is absolutely stunning!!!! I'm almost convinced to buy the V2 white.
However, I'm a bit worried that V2 might be too hot for me (literally).
I saw multiple posts saying they got blisters in their thighs above 30 degrees celsius (which is 86F I guess?) riding V4 and 959.

Since I live in S.Korea, I will do a lot of driving in the traffic too (abt 40~60 Min everyday to commute).
I know V2 meant to be a track-oriented bike but I want to use it as an everyday swiss army knife. It looks so cool I want to ride it whenever I have to go somewhere.

so bottom line, I want to take some opinion from the V2 owners

Is it going to be really hard to use V2 for everyday use? Is the heat going to BBQ my thighs?

How's the maintenance on this thing? Are there any reliability issues?

Welcome! We’re going to help you change your username to “JustBoughtADuc”

maintnence is going to be more than your R3 and so are parts and accessories. Tires are a big cost when you need them but if you can drive civilized you won’t need a new set every month like it seems I do

if you read in the V2 forums, you won’t find a single dissatisfied new V2 owner. But maybe you would enjoy a V4 so you can outrun aircraft

80 kph seems to be the threshold speed to keep everything cool. the v2 does not like going slow.

its a crazy world out there so for me, full gear every time. no exceptions. sharing the road with tourists requires red stage 100% of the time.

half the heat is from convection but the radiation will cook skin that is more sensitive. heat is not a problem with proper attire.

Leather pants help a lot. Look at Kushitani leather jeans for jean-looking leather pant that is also waterproof.

I daily ride mine to work( just hit 5600 miles). Its been 90-100 most days here in Denver. It sucks but I wouldnt say it was any worse than my old R6. Sucks in traffic but it is what it is.

So i havnt decided on a v2 or v4, but i see alot on this hot issue. Does anyone think rider height has anything to do with the heat on the legs etc, shorter riders and larger riders would be seated different locations

Is anyone else tired of explaining this or is it just me? V2s are not for NOOBS coming off a 300cc.

I hate to ruin your parade DUDE but you have no business getting on a V2 coming of a 300cc. You are entering a world of sport bikes that you have no clue about.Think of it as racing go carts straight to F1.

Horse power comparison
R3 - 42 HP
R6 - 100 HP
V2 - 155HP

Don’t be foolish work your way up and get a R6, GSXR, Daytona, or Ninja.

300cc > 600cc > 900cc

The 1299 and V4 are a bit much for me to handle sometimes but I believe there are only 2 throttle positions: open & closed

easy is over but sometimes self-control doesn't live up to expectations))

I have a 140 watt Onkyo hooked up to some 65 watt Yamaha studio monitors. plenty of headroom and crystal clear but it's pretty simple, you just don't turn it up.

You can use it for daily rides. My friend is riding a V4 daily like a 300cc... depends on ur skills... it's not the bike's problem if you can't ride it daily..

About the heat... its nothing to me... but to ppl who has never ridden a Harley or Ducati before... they will find it hot... there is a very easy solution, just dont always grip your thighs against the bike body...

Maintenance is nothing...plus you will have the factory warranty...

V4 is not a bigger V2. They are very different bikes. V2 is friendly and playful. V4 is a beast; I did not enjoy the ride -- it was too tolling both mentally physically. And I am coming from a Tuono, one the wildest bikes I have ridden. S1000RR is much easier to ride fast. My bike progression is Street Triple->S1000RR->Tuono, and now I am looking for a smaller bike, either V2 or the upcoming RS 660, because I like to open the throttle, and hitting 150+ mph is a bit much.

I find it comical that there are varying differences in responses pertaining to heat and its impact on the rider.

There are facts and then there are opinions.

Facts -

Bike gets ridiculously hot in daily traffic.
Frame heatsoaks which is where the majority of the heat is felt, right by your inner thighs.
Full exhaust will not reduce the heat....AT ALL.
Water wetter, engine ice, etc. Does not reduce heat for daily traffic....AT ALL.
Carbon frame covers won't actually reduce the heat the bike puts out but it will reduce the heat that you feel. If you want to take this even further, replace your stock frame with a carbon one. Heatsoak problem will be gone.
You can invest in aftermarket coolers.
You can install a manual switch to turn the fan on sooner than it does on its own.
I'm probably missing more but these are the basic "facts".

Opinions -

The bike isn't hot at all.
You're riding too slow.
You bought the wrong bike.
Welcome to one of the Ducati quirks.
Whatever other B.S. some of you spew on here.

That's quite simple minded way of thinking. Why do you think that You can handle a V2 but he doesn't? It's also quite weird how you recommend an R6 that needs to be revved the hell out of to have any sort of power while the V2 is way easier to ride and has way more expectable HP range.

He doesn't even plan on taking it on to the track or drive like a maniac.

Anyone that has ridden an R3 for a year will be able to ride a V2 (as long as you're honest with your own limits).

As soon as the topic starter bikes comes up people think that you need to be Rossi to handle a bike, not true.

Some people are mature enough to drive legally on road and keep the fun to the tracks.

Or do You think that someone that has ridden a R3 and is mature enough will instantly crash their Duc?

I see you point about maturity but skills are also a necessity.

Dynamics, ergos, capabilities, etcc of the R3 vs. a V2 are night and day.

Tell me this, would you jump from a R3 to a V2? I sure as hell wouldn’t.

Ego vs reality and wants vs needs.

OP also considered a V4!!! That’s shows you his maturity.

I have no urge to debate about something that is common sense.

Whatever OP decides is their choice I’m only here to be a voice of reason based on my experience.

what do you mean? It has a more linear power band so no surprises at all.
besides you told him to get an R6 that is only
fun at high RPMs. A V2 is always fun and for someone that knows his limits its a great bike albeit costly insurance.
No bike will kill you if you dont push it and stay at sane speeds.

If you can ride an R3, you can ride the biggest of sportbikes....any of them. Concept is exactly the same. If you respect the bike n power it makes, adjusting to throttle response and characteristics of a twin or a bigger bike in general will come rather quickly. It's all about respecting the power and getting some seat time. It's not rocket science. I started on a zx6r with having never sat on a bike or having touched a bike before and practiced getting used to the clutch in my 4 car length long driveway. Had to have it delivered to me and started practicing. Track riding and racing, now that's a whole different story.
