How much oil did you need to add during your Pani break in?

Just curious, because when I had my base 1199 it didn't seem to have burned much, but my R seemed to have burnt more and was low in the sight glass. What is the ideal level in the glass?
Thanks

Aim for between the high and low lines. The difference is only about 300-500ml. If you get it a little above the high line it doesn't matter. I've also seen the oil take over a day to settle in a cold engine, so if you're incredibly anal about it then it'll take as much time away from you as you're willing to spend. Not me. I just ride it.

What he said ;) N
Never had to refill or top off my R and she is at 8,800 miles.

Any where between the lines is ok.

Read your Owners Manual.

Don't panic.
Consider this.
The total oil capacity is in excess of 3.5 litres.
From memory, the amount of oil required to take your oil level from the bottom line to the top line is about 200-225ml.
So in the grand scheme of things it's a small amount really.

Monitor the amount of times you have to top up, and record the total amount to arrive at a conclusive figure to use as a base line to work with.

I only ever top up the oil when it gets to the bottom line from a bottle that's graduated and reserved for top ups.
Doing it this way and recording the reading on the odometer is the easiest way to manage it.

My base has 10k of hard riding. the only time I've added oil is when I do the oil change I do however change it every 3k miles

None, level has been very stable, had the 1st service done by the dealer, was slightly overfilled it so I drained a little to bring it to high, another oil change I did at around 1700 with OEM filter & Motul 300V, now I have almost 3000 miles going change oil & filter again.
Ridden hard from day 1, 12000 rpm's several times.

I never actually saw the low and high lines till you guys mentioned it..looked harder and saw them.Easy to see on my Diavel. I added 400ml..so it was either a pinch low from the dealer or i went through some and or both.

Mine burnt oil up until 2800 miles. It was recommended to change to a good quality non synthetic for a about 1k miles to get the rings to seat or ride it more aggressively in the high rev range. I choose the second option. I rode it in third or forth on the interstate for about 200 miles every time I went for a ride. Sometimes staying in the 5-7k rpm range and rolling on hard for short burst. I had the oil changed and it hasn't burned drop since.
I did also have a small leak at the valve covers that warranty covered and ironically the oil filler cap threads were machined improperly allowing oil to seep out. When screwed in you could see it was going in at a slight angle. Dealer Replaced the cap and "o" ring. Both of these were done prior to the aggressive riding technique. I just wanted to mention this for others out there to check out.
These bikes obviously need to be ridden hard to get them broke in. I'm sure one track day would do the trick.
