Going to be doing 1500 miles in a week... will the chain need lubrication Every day?!?!?
Thanks

Not helpful I know...but I installed an auto chain oiler on all my bikes...V2 included.
That said, when Regina are making their new ”no need to lube“ chain available to all in the new year I’ll be buying one of those and ditching the chain oiler.

To answer your Q...assuming it is going to be dry (ish) , just clean the chain and lube before you go and then do the same on your return.
Or...buy a small can of chain lube and take with you?

I often do 1000 mile weekends, but I’m a lazy ... - hence the auto oiler....

Alum or steel rear?

Cruising 120 kph or ?

Chain is sealed w o-ring

Cant lube the pins no matter how hard you try

Spray is for roller n sprockets me thinks

Auto oiler old school for 630 non o ring

Smoked

user discretion...

if you ride in the rain or store outside, lube it to keep it from rusting. rust in the o-ring area would cause premature wear possibly degrading the 'permanent lube'.

if you ride in dusty conditions and it gets gritty, clean it and lube it. same as above but the abrasive is the road grit.

if you want to spend more money than what a decent chain breaker and a chain costs, clean and lube about every 5th or 6th tank. not that i would judge someone by what their chain looked like. that would be rude...lol

my observations on a neglected chain in harsh conditions is that things become 'risky' at about 5,000 USmiles.

bmw hinted about bringing their fancy chain to the market so that's my plan. if not, probably every other tire change. maybe the third tire if the spockets are holding up

BMW chain is SEXY!!!

The Regina maintenance free chain lists a maximum speed of 2 m/s. Does anyone know the maths to break that into MPH?

Since an o-ring chain is sealed, I just spray a red shop towel with WD-40 and wipe it and the sprocket off if I notice if its getting dirty.

What ends up happening after a chain stops stretching?

Maintenance free chain ha

Its bs like this....

This is why Duc will do away w desmo

Don’t use WD on yer chain

Learned how much water was in that crap trying to use it to preserve stuff on race boats (that sat all winter)

We ended up coating the parts w Tide laundry detergent

Don’t use that on yer chain either : )

Great guidance thanks... might look at the chain you mentioned!!!

Chain lube is only to preserve the o rings and to prevent surface corrosion. As mentioned earlier it isn't lubricating the actual friction parts. Those are greased when the chain is assembled at factory. Take this information into consideration for modern street chain maintenance.

Lubricate depends on your riding conditions and the amount of debri. I like to follow the similar cleaning procedures as MotoGP by removing the chain since the cleaner smell is very strong.

this is not true. not to say bs.
oh sorry nowadays alternative truth ;)
the rollers at least needs lubrication.

Regina chain sounds like the future. They may the BMW chain. Something to ponder in 2021

Can you elaborate? Im open to understanding more completely but i only spray chain lube at the orings space. I personally don't care about surface corrosion and with the gold chains i don't even think that's an issue.

Why does the roller to sprocket surface need lubrication?
