How To Fix The 1299/1199 Heat Issue

I can see how this would reduce "felt heat" but wouldn't this mod make the engine heat problem worse...it's gotta go somewhere?

Sort of like how wrapping pipes. FWIW I have'n t noticed much of a problem...even in 90 degrees.

On the track or at speed it's fine. Sitting at a light you do notice it off the exhaust, but the frame doesn't bother me - I'm not spending $300 on a frame cover. More zero return mods

In my experience any undertail exhaust is going to be hot as .... while sitting still. My ZX6R's, 675, R1's...all hot.

I usually just crap my pants to create a nice wet layer that acts as a heat absorber. It works really well and it's pretty easy to install.

But a bitch to clean up and a whopper to explain to the pit crew...

Can confirm, installed these yesterday and made a huge difference today on the commute in to the office, I was a little skeptical on the install with the way it's attached but by morning it was solid as a rock.. I would give it a 8/10 overall.. 10/10 finish and fitment wise a 2/10 for instructions (not that it's complicated at all, just could be better then a 1980's looking xerox copy looking page) Overall very satisfied, it does what I wanted it to.. prevents 2nd degree burns to my legs from the subframe... yeah, yeah I could wear full leathers to work but no, I don't, jeans so I needed something.

everyone installing these are reporting some sort of difference. "zero return mod" my ass.

Carbon frame covers on my S1000RR made it possible to touch the frame with bare fingers after a hard ride in 90 degree weather - something you don't want to do to the bare stock frame....

I totally agree about the instructions, they were totally illegible.

These are far from a zero return.....

as long as the heat avoids my tender buttocks, I'm not picky where it goes :p Different bikes vent differently; my S1000RR supposedly manages heat very well, but it'll cook your feet it you use raised rearsets. The Multistrada runs cool for a Ducati, but I need to air out my inner thighs every 15 minutes or so.

I've started looking very closely at the exhausts on the Panigales in World Superbike and Superstock. They're wrapping the rear pipe, on the right hand side of the loop only; all of them run the factory-approved Akrapovic.

the heat does indeed need to go somewhere. the BEST place for exhaust heat to go? out the damned outlets, along with the exhaust gases! Ideally, if the exhaust absorbed zero heat energy from the exhaust gases, the velocity of the exhaust gases by the time they exit the cans would be faster....and it wouldn't be roasting the subframe, the seat, the rider's butt, etc....

Ok, getting varying points on this subject and i would like some clarification before buying this thing. And before my bike is delivered to the track because once i get it, it will be time to grid up. If this is going to be installed, i want it done now while the bike is in pieces.

1. With a full exhaust (Cats removed), is this still an issue?

2. Is the heat truly not an issue when wearing leathers?

Of course i will be moving at a pretty good speed most of the time, but there are still times when we are stuck sitting on the grid, or in hot pit, etc. I dont want my balls to melt.

#1 hell yes it is. To fix it I wrapped my full termi under the seat only.

On a side not the new full termi CF shield does a better job then the akra sucky style shield that was just terrible

#2 cooked in one piece leathers before wrapping.

We keep a fast pace in the canyons and before wrap, on a hot summer day it was way to hot to deal with.

Now its better then my 848

I ceramic coated inside and out AND wrapped my headers.. I didn't notice much of a difference if any. The subframe covers i installed ( super easy install I didn't get ANY instructions..the left side was a bitch and i was thinking it was impossible but i did get it. I added some of my own extra heat tape. It worked wonders. it still gets hot but i don't notice it nearly as much. Mainly on my calves.

but of course, the "expert" opinion is that it's a waste of $300 and a "zero return mod". despite many reports like yours to the contrary....

my current solution is a large cookie sheet.

- set cookie sheet on the ground next to the bike
- fill with cold water to the brim
- sit on cookie sheet, soaking butt and upper thighs
- go ride

Just placed my order today and was told it is a 30-40 day backlog. Looks like summer will almost be over.

I put 1/8" thick ceramic washers between the subframe and engine block. Helped a bunch

Still have some heat transfers thru the bolt bodies but at least its only warm to the touch now, not blistering hot.
