Hey guys,
So I got the chance to ride the new 1299 Panigale S at Ducati Austin and all I can say is wow.

Here is the YouTube video, it's a little long winded but I do managed to get stung by a wasp like 8 times too.

I specifically wanted to see if you can commute on this bike without it being a complete nightmare and I'm happy to say you definitely can.

I know what's next on my list!

Long but good review - I think you nailed it when you said it's fun to ride something not everyone has and may not be the most practical, but puts a big smile on your face every time you get on it

Addicted to fast toys huh? You're in good company here.

Interesting and well informed review from a real rider (not paid to say it's awesome or a track rider).
Get it into race mode and utilise the DQS as I noticed you used the clutch changing gears. I use it on the road all the time and it is awesome.

Cheers Carl

You don't need race mode for the DQS, although you obviously can ride it in race mode too ;)

My concern for the street is that the rake is now a little too steep for my taste. I wonder about swapping out steering heads with an 1199 to go back to a "more relaxed" turn in.

I have a hyper 14sp. Do you ever notice an inconsistent clutch. Gets really grabby and causes you to leave a light like a noob..?? I do every once in a while in 350 miles. Can't predict when it will do it but I don't like it. I read online it's fairly common but fixed in the 15s with the new monster clutch. Wondering if you've experienced any funkiness... Thanks.

And I hate you for making me want a 1299 more now.

Good review, helps with the questions nobody gets answered out of the magazines.

Thanks for the review. These little tidbits are helping me pass the time until my bike gets here.

Which camera and mount are you using? Do you have an in helmet mic or is the camera mic picking up your voice that well from outside?

Mine has done that a few times, but it isn't that bad. For me the issue is it missing gears and not wanting to go into neutral.

I have a GoPro Hero 4 Black mounted to my helmet with a 99 cent amazon external mic shoved in my helmet.

Thanks. I was impressed with the audio at speed. I have a Uclear Bluetooth headset on my helmet and can talk on the phone at speed (allows me to take call while riding). I should see if I can link my mic to the GoPro somehow.

Taking a telephone call while riding a Panigale would be my definition of "hell". But, to each his own.

I actually looked, I got 3 for $1. So that 33c mic is actually amazing. Cram it in your cheek pad and enjoy

It's a lot better than sitting at home on the couch waiting for the phone to ring. I pick up the Panigale on Saturday and am on call 5 of the next 7 days. I'll be able to get breakin done while on call. Just in time to take it to MMP on the 30th. During the winter I use the same setup on my ski helmet.

I took a 1299S demo out whilst having my 1199 serviced just now.
Things I noticed immediately:-
1 - Ride was A LOT smoother going through town between 20-40 in Sport mode.
2 - The DQS downshift was fantastic.
3 - Gearing didn't seem as tall as 1199.
4 - Goes F fast, F quickly, but then so does my 1199 with the full Termi system on.
5 - Neutral was very hard to find - I only got it 1 out of 4 tries whilst the bike was cold. Seemed to get better as the ride went on. The demo only had 123 miles on it so it's still brand new.
6 - Pegs are grippy.
7 - New seat felt more comfortable.
8 - Bike cut out coming to a stop sign once - I've read that new bikes do that.
9 - Didn't ride it enough to make an observation about the electronic steering damper but as I had just been blown about on the windy interstate on my 1199 and had the bike shake it's head at 80mph whilst passing the spoilt air of a truck I would hope that it's a great benefit. That reminds me, I must firm up my 1199 steering damper before I head home.
All in all it is a fantastic bike. I'll mull over whether it is fantastic enough to trade in my Tricolore but I am very tempted nonetheless.

Appreciate the review mate :) a good insight for those of us debating on pulling the trigger on this awesome bike. I'm definitely sold on it as i will also be using it as a commuter.

I have been commuting on mine for 3 weeks now and it's perfectly good as a commute bike.. As the engine breaks in, it's producing less heat and the engine frees up. I am running in race mode and don't find it an issue, although to be fair, I ran my BMW S1000RR in race mode as well, so I have developed a pretty sensitive throttle hand.

Cheers.

I agree with all of these points. Neutral is hard to find on my hyper as well.
