I have never been so happy with a Motorcycle.

wish my 1199 had DWC.... even in stock form, I have to use all my body weight to keep the front down in 2nd and 3rd.. Any little imperfection in the road and the wheel lifts in 3rd gear.

I always wanted a bike that could power wheelie on demand, now I wish I had wheelie-control.. :)

I just find most of these adjustments except fueling to be nuanced and mostly placebo. I've owned a bunch of bikes and modded them all except the s1000rr and the only noticeable difference has been sound. smoothing out fueling and gearing a different story. I've dynoed before and after on them all and while they all showed performance gains anything under 10hp/tq just didn't feel different once I stepped back and reassessed. However, night and day when fueling was smoothed and that always made a noticeable difference. This experience are on a half dozen machines 2009-2013 as the 15 bmw hasn't been messed with and won't due to wadding it up but the tuners basically say there's not much to get out of it.

I am mostly in agreement with you; my 2011 BMW S1000RR (that I put more than 54,000 miles on and about 80+ trackdays) only picked up about 8 rwhp with a full Akra race system, BMC race filter and a custom ECU tune. Prior to that, it had a custom tune on a PCV that had only picked up around 6 rwhp, but had part throttle and driveability issues (very slight). I am hearing that the 2015 has VERY little left in it for the tuners to extract; it's just a monster straight out of the box and quite a bit stronger than any of the previous years were.

Also, on the S1000RR, the stock air filter was as good as any of the aftermarket filters - go to the S1000RR Forum and you will find that Brocks, Bren and Alpha all found little to no gains from changing the stock filter out for a race BMC or similar, so maybe the BMW has another restriction and the air filter doesn't make much difference because of that.

The 1299 reacts FAR better than any other bike I have had tuned (and I have had a ton of bikes tuned, all the way back to my Suzuki GSXR 1100 with 1425cc kit, race cams and full exhaust - tuned by Factory Racing).. All I can say, is that these relatively simple and cheap mods have made a MASSIVE difference to my 1299 from my butt dyno and the fact that it wants to wheelie everywhere in the top 5 gears now, where it didn't do nearly so much prior to the mods.

I will get the bike dynoed soon and we shall see. If others experiences are correct, I would expect a good 12-15 rwhp gain.

+1 Get the ride position, suspension and fueling right and all will be good with the world.

Better sound, hp, & torque are bonuses, but only if the three things above are dialed in. I just ordered the Sprint filter. Going to try it w/ the stock cans and see if it smooths out the lump @ 3500 rpm. Ducati loves to (or maybe more aptly "needs to") choke their bikes in stock form.

The 1299 is a possible replacement when I get to riding again so I'm still closely following performance as my test ride led me to believe this would be the only bike I didn't put an exhaust on it sounded so good. However, I knew from the start I'd get it tuned as its out of the box fueling still sucks. I'm guessing every Italian rides these bikes at redline everywhere they go.

I had one of the early 2010 S1000RRs, with the lighter crankshaft. In Slick mode (the early bikes had different throttle maps for EVERY mode), it was, well, very, very sensitive lol.

Maybe a stupid question, but if the A/F ratio is controlled by the ECU...how does allowing more air through the airbox change what's happening in the engine?

As others have said, more air through the airbox (due to less restrictive filter) means more fuel added and more power, BUT only when the ECU is operating in closed loop mode (i.e. where the ECU adjusts fuel based on the readings of the exhaust O2 sensors). For the stock ECU that closed loop mode only occurs at relatively low RPM (I'm can't remember the exact value but somewhere below ~5,200 RPM), and increasing power down there is a little moot.

A filter change is not going to increase peak HP on this bike unless you have it tuned to force delivery of more fuel, or if your existing tune happens to be on the rich side; in which case the filter will have the affect of leaning out the AFR to produce more power. I wouldn't expect big performance increases from either of these though.

The improvement provided by the filter in making the engine work less to such the air in - although a real effect - will be quite marginal in the scheme of things, so again I wouldn't expect any meaningful performance increase from that.

Now that I have installed the Termignoni Carbon slipon, the Sprint P08 filter and the RapidBike Race module and put some real miles on it, the bike is just astounding.

I took it out on Friday morning in around 70 degree weather (about 20 degrees less than it has been recently) and had some completely clear roads that let me really ride her hard.

I'm not sure if it's a characteristic of a large bore twin engine, compared to a 4 cylinder like my BMW S1000RR, but the 1299 works best when you keep the engine spinning hard between the gears; it seems to react best to just ripping it through the gears with zero let-up. With my mods, the 1299 is FRIGHTENINGLY fast... My S1000RR WAS A MONSTER, A BEAST above 11,000 rpm, but now my 1299 is even faster... It 's BONKERS!!. Now the midrange is even MORE nuts and it takes every bit of my body weight over the front, plastered to the tank to keep the front wheel down in 3rd and 4th. Running DWC level 1, it will lift the front in 2nd and not put it down until 5th if I pin it and rip through the shifts, shifting at, or very near redline in each gear.

I have already posted my opinion on the handling and brakes, but with the changes I have made, I am over the moon happy with the 1299. It has the look, the character and the outright berserk speed that I hoped it would have, way back when I put my deposit down on faith.

Any of you who want your bike to be truly unleashed at a reasonable price, with very little screwing around, you might want to try the package I (and a bunch of others on this forum) have done... Trust me, you will be happy.

80 Shilling. I just installed the Rapid Bike Racint unit along with the Sprint filter and it has literally fixed all the surging, running hot,and stalling issues I have listed in several posts before. I AM a believer. Absolutely the best mod for the money! I had just risen it for about 30 miles and saw, amazing throttle response changes. Used to be oc could never run it below 4500 rpm or it would buck and kick etc. I was told by several people (including some on this site ) that is just the way it is on this bike and that I had to " just accept it"

Well ........ to that! I got the module in with a base tune for a 1299 with Akro slip on and Slrint filter and the so called " Ducati Up Mapp."
Well all I can say is it is simply astounding the difference it made on my bike! I can now travel in 4th gear at 45 mph and it is around 3400 rpm and it just pulls. Smoothly. No surging. No BS! :D. II am totally sold on the RapidBike.

It ran amazing at TWS last Monday until I Hisided it at about 50mph coming out of a 180degree turn. I did run wide but still think I hit some coolant from another bike that was leaking.

Oh well. When I get my new front headlight cowl, side panels and handlebar etc it will be good as new.. * I will however need surgery on my right foot. I found out today that I have a pretty serious fracture in the instep. Funny thing is I have been walking around on it and it doesn't even hurt there. Just a swollen ankle. Going under the knife on Monday.

I have spent a lifetime modifying my Motorcycles and cars.. From my first Fiat 907 with skimmed head and twin Webers, to my 700 HP Porsche Gt2, to my GSXR1100 with 1425cc kit... NONE Of them have reacted as well to such simple, inexpensive mods as the 1299 has.

I was also a real doubter as far as the RapidBike module.. I thought that it was going to be like the Power commander 5 I used on my BMW S1000RR and got a few more HP and slightly better throttle response, but not much else. The RapidBike really does what is claimed for it. Combined with the Termi Carbon slipon and the filter, I am just blown away by how much better the 1299 is and it was pretty damn spectacular to begin with!

Cheers and thanks for the feedback. Heal up quick and get back on the track.

Amen to that brother..
We more or less have the same setup (except mine has the Ducati Akropovic Slipon with the "up map".) After spending $3500 for the "official Ducati Slipon" in an act of desperation to get mine running right I saw no real improvement.. Their 1299 "Up Map" did NOTHING to make the bike run better. I imagine that there are many 1299 riders out there that just don't know any better and think their bike runs OK..
Well If they rode yours on mine they would suddenly be REAL unhappy with theirs. I was repeatedly told that the issues were just a Ducati Trait and to "get used to it". Well I call BS!. Ducati makes a fine engine It just needs the right engine mapping and ignition mapping to run properly.. I was also skeptical but it made my bike SO much more responsive and a LOT more powerful in the low to midrange (and probably even more up at the top end.). Did I mention that it now runs significantly cooler LOL? It is now really enjoyable to ride and I told the dealer that they need to market and install these units on their 1299's..
I personally think that Ducati has to neuter their bikes so badly to meet the stringent EPA requirements that the RapidBike simply retunes it to the point it should have been in the first place. All in all, I cannot think of a better upgrade and I love the idea that it continually tunes it self and keeps it running in top tune regardless of the outside temperature.
Of course it also doesn't require running the back tire off of it on a dyno (and running hot while it is being tuned etc.) No matter how well a bike is Dyno tuned it will not be the best tune for all conditions.. Temperature and elevations and humidity often change and this RapidBike unit keeps the bike in a good range all the time. I am totally sold.. Results show for themselves.. Talk is cheap This thing rocks! :D

+1 - the foam/gauze type filters generally don't filter as well (although they do flow better) and only provide a minor hp gain in any test I've seen

Setting aside hp (top end or otherwise), will a change to a high flow filter alone smooth out the low rpm fueling in a closed loop system w/ a stock exhaust and map? I can't seem to get a bead on whether people are experiencing that.

this is spot on. while motors with large valve timing overlaps aren't as easy to run smoothly, it is far from impossible...as long as you're free from trying to meet emissions or sound regulations, or trying to do more than one thing at once, like get better fuel economy.

after remapping my bike, I do not detect any power dips at any rpm, throttle position, or gear. I really, really like it!!

P.S. The flapper valve spring is a joke. I can easily turn it with my thumb and index finger. I am in my garage, safety wiring it in the open position. At some point in the future, I will just remove it, weld up the holes, grind the welds down until they are smooth and be done with it.

I can see how the flapper valve could end up fluttering, or generally misbehaving in everyday use.

Ill try to answer my own question.

Installed sprint filter today w/ stock fuel map & stock exhaust. My seat of the pants impressions is that it does help w/ low end smoothness. Not a "OMG this is like a different bike" improvement, and not nearly good as a proper tune & exhaust ..but a worthwhile mod on it's own (at least so far)

I could easily ride around in 3rd & 4th gear between 3k & 4k rpm and the bike didn't feel like it was starving..which is nice when your forced to plod along @ 30 mph. There was no change in perceived power, but it did seem to rev faster.

The hardest part of the install was reinstalling the two little vent hoses on the tank. Damn you'd think they could spare another inch for a $25k bike. I was a little freaked out having to remove the shower injectors...but its super easy. Nice design. Changing the filters on my 999 was an all afternoon affair and doing anything inside the airbox on the 999 was an all weekend affair.

I noticed this as well - curious to know how wiring it will affect midrange throttle response
