Throttle Play

Received the spacers this afternoon James and installed them a short time later with the help of your great video. What a tremendous improvement! As good as it gets. Thanks for everything. Dave.

I just installed the ebay kit a few minutes ago. Yowza....major difference when just blipping the throttle.

If this rain moves through I'll take it out for a spin.

I think I'm going to like it!

Maybe I can help someone out.....I left all my big allen wrenches at work so I had nothing here to pull the bar end. I didn't want to tear up the end....so I wrapped the end in 10-12 wraps of duct tape. I clamped pair of vise grips on it and yeha! off came the end. I left it all clamped up until it was reassembled. Cut the tape off, a quick wipe of brakewash to clean the tape residue off and you are done!

Hopefully it cools off a bit this evening...

Chris

I'm a little confused... I didn't need to take the bar end off to install the kit. Just opened up the plastic housing per the instructions! What was the motivation behind removing it?

What panirider said? Absolutely no need to remove the bar end to install the throttle spacer.

Not seeing the security screw screwdrivers on Harbor Frieght, anyone have a link?

Why does Ducati feel the need to use four different kinds of fasteners on this bike?

Thanks, James, for all of you and your teams efforts in knocking these out and offering them at $20.
Put mine on last night. Perfect fit.
Tested this morning and found it so nice that the slop has gone.
I had seen the DP ones at $80 but the disclaimer put me off - i'm really glad it did now.
To be fair, it has just brought my Tri up to what I was used with my 996 and 748, or any other bike i'd ridden with a throttle cable.
I'm still not sure why Ducati engineered such an amount of slop in their superbike in the first place.

I installed the ebay kit this morning. Throttle feels a lot better without the slop. I ended up buying an $8 kit from AutoZone with the tri-wing bit in it.

Just as an experiment, I got rid of even the last infinitesimal piece of throttle slop. I found a zip tie that was exactly the correct thickness and glued it to the side of the larger of the two inserts that came with the kit I got from Jamez. I like it.. Instantaneous motion of the motorcycle, no waiting, not a millisecond...

Cheers.

....... awesome. Was about to spend $65 for the ones from Ducati Omaha until I saw the eBay link for half the price! Can't wait to install them.

Fanatical ;)

any pics?

Sorry, no pics, but so easy to do. I just looked through the various materials I had in my garage and found some black plastic Zip ties and they were the perfect thickness. I cut to size, then superglued to the larger of the two inserts... Voila! There you go.

There was still some slop in your throttle after installing the kit? Mine had zero play after installing the kit, but my bike is an 899- wonder if there are some small differences in the clearances on the 1299 throttle assembly?

There was literally 2mm left. I'm an engineering type and tend to take things to their logical conclusion (sometimes to a ridiculous extent), so I just had to see what it would be like with ZERO slop.

Cheers.

Something seems wrong if you had 2mm of play. I had dead nuts zero play in mine - maybe my spacer was thicker?

Also, like you said, soon much easier to get away from the light, particularly in city traffic where you can't just open up as soon as the light is green.
