I come to read my manual after having my bike for a little over 3 weeks that my suspension is set to FLAT after I told the dealer to set it to PROGRESSIVE like its recommended by Ducati.

I was assured that it WAS in PROGRESSIVE mode and cared not to check for myself this entire time. WTF

Punked:mad:

OK, quick and dirty of my Tric after I fitted some CF treats.

See the arrow that points to F. If I switch the linkage round 180 and extended the arm, it would fit to the LHS and point to P.

Clear?

According to the dealer I spoke too yesterday, setting them to P is part of the PDI over here in the UK, how many dealers bother is another thing.

What I would say is that make sure no dealer tries to charge labour for switching it, it's supposed to be like that from day one. After 680 miles on my Tri I understand why, it should be C not F....for Chiropractor!

My dealer told me yesterday that ALL 1199 models he's delivered were set to "P" from the factory.

Every new bike I've seen on the showroom floor waiting for delivery has been set to F. I will reiterate with them I want mine on P.

Ducati only recommend P if you are taking passengers-see attachment

Did you ask to have the rear pegs installed? If you ask to have the rear pegs installed at delivery, the dealer will set the linkage to P as required for passenger carry. If you don't, it should remain at the F setting.

Did your dealer take you through the operation of the bike at delivery? Call DNA and complain if they didn't. Oh, and shame on you for riding 3 weeks before knowing WTF about your bike. :D

Austin Racing have had their Panigale for months to develop aftermarket gear - their strong advice was to have the linkage in P mode unless you are going to exclusively track the bike

Some of you may remember some previous posts around this and I dropped DNA a note about what the offical factory setting was. Got some garbled nonsense back so asked them to clarify is it P or F and this is the response I received this very morning:

"Dear Mr Brown,

We would kindly inform you that the rear linkage setting the 1199 Panigale should be delivered with is "flat".

For further information and advice, please make reference to your Official Ducati Dealer who has all the resources to answer your technical enquiries.

Best regards,

what I was told was F was for track however if you want a really hard ride then its your choice you can leave it on Flat. I rode for 1000 with F setting and then change to P, I prefer P which gives a slightly more flex

Its up to you and how you ride as to which setting you want

What the manual does say if I remember correctly is that if you are carrying a passenger it must be in P mode

:p but very true - lol This is what I msg'd the dealer. I look forward to their response. FYI - I specifically asked for it to be set to PROGRESSIVE and the salesman convinced me they set all of them to that...

(Nate - you guys are NOT setting the suspension's to PROGRESSIVE like I asked. I was reading through the manual and noticed mine is set to FLAT (recommended for track use only). FYI
I'd prefer my complimentary Ducati T-Shirt in black & large please - thank you in advance)

I'm 6'2" and weigh approx. 190-200lbs. I'm under the impression that riding in Chicago with NOT the most perfect roads and not draggin my knee's (until my next trackday) the PROGRESSIVE setting is the way to go UNLESS one of you nice gents convince me otherwise...

I'M ALL EARS :)

I don't give a monkeys what they recommend, I've done 680 miles in the real world on UK roads on flat and it's so stiff you wince with every lump and bump. On poor surfaces the hopping around at the back shakes your eyeballs out!

I'm going P plus a proper setup by a suspension expert for my weight. I'm 210lbs so if it's too stiff for me in F it will be for most.

On motorways and the like yeah it's great, tracks well but I don't spend much time on motorways.

If the P is crap and too soft after setup, I'll go back to F.

While it would be nice to have the ride a little more compliant, the balance is so sublime with F setting, that I don't want to mess about with it.

If changing to P is gonna mess with ride-height and chain tension, which in turn means messing with ride-height more, then I'm just gonna leave it as is.

If the bike is new (no chain stretch) then swapping the link is a simple nuts/bolts action and will not change anything other than the linkage rate. There are slots for the adjustable length rod to the swingarm. It has two positions only that the cross-bolt will go through it. It is not used for ride height adjustment. The shock threaded lower end is for height adjust...
