Insurance in Australia

Does anyone have any input on Australian insurance providers please? I have searched but can't see too much on previous threads.

We always seem to get screwed on price simply for living in Oz. So before taking delivery next week I am shopping about for insurance especially carefully.

I am 40yo, full no claims bonus, bike will be garaged in the Eastern suburbs, Sydney. The bike is an S, and insurance value will be AUD36k (non-Australian forum members - note heinous price!).

So far I have the following quotes:

QBE - $1,700, excess $600, $4k gear cover
Shannons - $1,800, with similar terms
NRMA - $1,407, excess $650, $2k gear cover, no restrictions on garaging

Is there any other provider I should look at? Any other comments?

Groundhog day again:D

Check the Aussie threads, you will find it all there, plus I think there is a little discussion in one of the other Insurance threads.

no need for apologies.. There are so many combinations that affect insurance premiums. I find it interesting and helpful to know what others are getting.
Sometimes earlier threads can get lost .. perhaps a mod can merge the two.
 
Just bend over and take it... We live in oz... They'd screw you in the ear if they could fit it in

Thats some of the penalties you have to pay for living in paradise.....as they say ya gotta take the .... with the sugar:D
 
Indeed. Not entirely sure about how that holds recently, given the (non)Summer we had in Sydney. But on the whole I think you're right. I lived in the UK for 12 years before returning to Sydney. In London they refer to the lower salaries and higher prices of Australia as the Sunshine Tax. Apropos.

I found this old post (below) thanks, which had some decent insurance stuff in the middle pages. Looks like I have already canvassed the major providers, will now do what I can to squeeze pricing.

yeh im getting quotes for 3.5k - 4k full comp on the standard model. but i am 24 years old so Australia will just screw me a little harder coz im not a fossil
 
mate I'm 28yrs old only held a full license for 3yrs and I just go a quote online from NRMA for $1862.00, called them up to double check gear coverage etc. Then emailed the quote to QBE and they came back with $1840.00. Which is a lot better than 2 weeks ago when I was getting quotes for $2600

Lol......Ohhh you poor boy.

I can tell you I am 56 and I have been screwed alot more than your 3-4k and do you hear me whinging:D
 
I did an online quote with insure my ride for about $800. 32 year old in Sydney (North West). Was cheaper than my 5 year old ZX10!

Crap I'd hate to see what there going to hit me with since I'm only 21:eek:
 
Wow. Is that true mickrawW? Just 21? Pleeeeez report back here when you get quoted, I would love to hear what you get offered.

Out of curiosity, what are you riding now?

How did you get an online quote? I just tried and it gave me a pop-up message saying I had to call them for a quote.

i hit a sheep in melbourne going 100kph at night. lucky i always ride full geared and broke no bones. the sheep was the size of a dinosaur and his other two buddies run away. when the cops came they shot the thing to make sure its dead. only spent overnight in hospital
