Hi All,

I would appreciate your opinion on whether it would worth the extra cash upgrading from a 1229s to a V4s.

Thanks in advance

Trackdays are more about the grin inside your helmet than anything. Only you can put a price on that IMHO.

Ive only a done a few track days but I think after riding both the v4 would arguably be a better and probably easier bike to ride especially if lap times are your thing but I wouldn't upgrade unless you are planning to anyway, for fun then 1299 all the way :) they go plenty fast enough!

Thanks for your reply. It's lap times I am focusing on at the moment. I am in the lower part of the fast group at the moment.

What are the key benefits that the V4 has over the 1299s on the track from your perspective?

The 1299 (and 1199, and 1x98 and and and) are perfectly capable of claiming track records given appropriate rider ability. The most effective thing you can do is spend your money on seat time, tires, and instruction. You aren't going to pick up two seconds by switching bikes. You could pretty easily pick up two seconds by spending a few hundred bucks to get one on one time with a good coach. In terms of dollars per unit of lap time dropped a new bike is probably never worth it compared to the aforementioned items.

This is a good point and one I agree with because that's where I am investing at the moment and getting results.

The reason for the post is that I am either going all in on making mods on my 1299 (currently stock) or going for the V4s. Thanks for the comment.

I ride at the sharper end of the fast group on a 1299s. Other than a fuel controller and different brake pads my bike is bone stock. So don’t think that throwing parts at it will get you there.

Thanks for your comment. To be clear, I am not expecting to magically get anywhere throwing parts at it. I am considering spending money on carbon fairings, cans etc. purely for enjoyment purposes so thought before dropping £4k I would ask the question here about what people thought about the V4s compared to the 1299 before spending any more.

I am all in on instruction, track time etc for improving times.

Hopefully see you in the front some time ;)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m just as big of a parts whore as anyone. I’m just speaking from a practical standpoint. I’d buy a V4 in a heartbeat if I had f-it money. It’s all about enjoying the ride!

If u compare the cost of 1299 accessories when the bike was fresh in 2015 vs now, the prices seem quite fair.
1299 with Akra system and a BrenTuning ECU tune seems to be a much more wild monster than stock

Consider how much u owe on your 1299 or if it’s paid off vs how much you’re going to owe on a V4
But on the other side, that V4 will have a nice warranty

I’test riding A 2020 V4 S here in Florida in a week and see how it compares to my 1299S

if you’re in love with the looks of the V4 maybe it’s time to upgrade
