I'm just entering the market for actually purchasing my first Ducati, and I am shocked to see so many bikes on the market that have between 600-3000 miles on the dial. Am I missing something? Why is nobody riding their bikes...,

Probably not being able to make time for it. Being a single parent, I have my son on the weekends and it's difficult finding not only the time to get a ride in but also for findin someone to watch him. I don't like pawning him off to my parents just to get a ride in. Not that serious. Mainly commute to work but I wouldn't necessarily call a 5 mile roundtrip commuting. Therefore, it sits in front of my door covered up with its raincoat, beggin to be ridden one of these days. Tryin to get friends to ride at the same time is like the stars aligning perfectly. That in itself is challenging n I for one am not too crazy about ridin with strangers too often. Once in a special while is fine but not much. 2900 miles since April 2013.

I have 11 k on mine but Only a thousand of them were done this year...

Life is life

That's totally a reasonable excuse for having that many miles on your bike. I'm not gonna sit here and jerk my own chain about how many Miles I have under my belt, but when I was 18 years old I got my first bike and put 12,000 miles on it in a three-month span.,, if I wasn't riding I was eating or sleeping and vice versa. given I didn't have a kid or major responsibilities but every bike I've owned since then I generally put between 10 and 15,000 miles on it at least before I move onto the next one. Especially buying new I want to get my moneys worth of depreciation!

As for a riding buddy, I know what you mean, riding alone is only fun for so long. I've been lucky enough to have one of my best friends be someone I met while I was riding (it's always a funny story to tell).

Oh well their loss is our gain.

Get out n ride!

Had mine since August and have almost 4000mi on her. Ride her all the time. Going to do a huge ride on Monday since I'm off all week!!! Borrego Springs here I come

I see those same ads too and wonder why the guys even bought the bike. Except to lose a few grand that is. Sucks.

It seems a fair amount of Ducati's are bought because people like them and want one, not because they are out and out into riding (my dealer often comments on this and the amount you actually see in the hills riding backs it up too me thinks)....I don't get it either but it seems common with a good portion of bikes at the higher end of the market. People buy things for different reasons, which is ok. I bought my Multistrada because I wanted a Multistrada not because I wanted a Ducati....8 years on I've now had a few and still got the Multi with 83000kms on it!

granted .... happens and life does get in the way sometimes also.

Well put, it's just a shame that the people who buy it because of the name don't actually get to enjoy the bike and end up just losing a bunch of money to drive the distance from Seattle to Nor Cal.

Congrats on the 83000kms.. Duno what that is in miles but it's still a lot haha.

I think it is quite obvious, the people that are selling them don't have time to enjoy them, so they are selling them, that's why they have low miles!

Sold two with 20K on them and my '13 has 9k on her.
If they don't ride them or enjoy them, selling them would be the sensible option ;)

Won't be sellin mine. Even if I only put 500 miles a year on it. I still get a stiffy every time I look at it. That itself is worth the monetary depreciation.

If I didn't live in a place with ...... cold weather I'd ride it all the time. I took it out this weekend for maybe 30 min and froze my ... off just to get some heat in the engine and to remind myself why I bought that Akrapovic exhaust. Worth it.

Just downshifting as you come to a stop is epic.

I know how you feel.

Like most of us, we start off with a used 5 year old Japanese 600cc for 2-3 years, then upgrade to a 3 or 4 year old 1000cc, if some of us get lucky and buy a new 1000cc, ride it for 2 or 3 years.

Now we got a great job, can finally get our dream bike, but remember that first 1000cc you bought? You riding around impressing chicks, well it worked, she's your girlfriend for 4 years. It's time... So you decide, either get an engagement ring or buy that dream bike you've always wanted. Of course why not have both right? You got that sweet good paying job. So you do it sell your old bike and buy a Ducati.
You've been engaged for a year, its time for a wedding, you've been so busy working, keeping the misses happy and that dream bike you bought is barely ridden. You need money to give her the perfect wedding, so you sell the Ducati.

At that point, you ditch the girlfriend and have a variety of women instead.

I've yet to own a used bike in the 11 years I've been riding (3 600's and Panigale). I just need to do more riding during the week instead of driving. It just takes so much work to ride that at times it can be discouraging. It's so much easier to drive unless there's traffic. Riding requires putting on gear, carrying around your helmet, riding boots/shoes, jacket. If it isn't for an afternoon fun ride, riding can be an inconvenience as well as a fear of gettin your bike stolen. Hell, that's probably the main reason why I never ride anywhere that I have to be away from the bike.

I have just over 2k on mine but its all track miles...its hard to find time to go in circles that many times.

Have you considered the daytona 500? Great way to add miles to your bike while makin nothin but left turns. :)

6500 on mine in 1 yr of ownership. More than half on the track. Loving every minute of it.
