Just saw the 1299 full Akrapovic system at my dealers.

I'm curious to know what you think the better option is then.

I also hate when people over the internet criticize others spending when they have no idea of their financial situation. I had a similar experience on another board when I said how much I was spending on a track bike. If that person has the disposable income then who cares? Your cost to benefit ratio isn't the golden standard for everyone.

I'm on the fence. $5k is hard to justify for an exhaust in my opinion. I'm leaning towards no. A good friend of mine has been making custom race exhausts for awhile now and does good work. He specialized in Buell/EBR's and with their current status, I talked him into trying Ducati's. I'll be giving my bike to him as a test mule for a few months. It won't be Akra sexy but I loved the last exhaust he built for me. His exhaust is also known for making more power than any other on the market for the 1125 series. Even beating out EBR's $2k full race system. A sample of his work:

I think you're a little bit confused..... If you read all of my posts about this exhaust I complement it and I just bought one for my 2015. What I'm saying is I do not see why people are buying these from dealerships for $5000 or even $4500 if the dealer discounts it, simply because they say Ducati Performance, and, "up-map" that can be had aftermarket for $200ish.
You can get the system for $3200-$3300 online and save close to $2K. That's what I'm saying. Mike and I have posted numerous times about it. I'm just perplexed what makes the "Ducati Performance" once so great in so many people's minds. You're paying $1,000 more for a name stamped on it.

All of a sudden the same exhaust is out now but it has "Ducati performance" stamped on it and everybody is creaming their pants. There is absolutely no better exhaust out in my opinion sound looks and power wise.

That said can't wait to get my bike and strip the oem and install it.
Akrapovic has stated time and time and time and time and time again you do not need any map with the system anyway. Your bike will operate 100% fine.

Just my $.02.

I did not mean "waste $5000" I meant waste the difference for what you can easily get this system from online. As I posted I ordered mine from motorcycle works for $3300 and it was in the mail in 8 days. No sales tax (which you will absolutely pay your deaer), no shipping, no annoyances.

Akra on.

I guess I might be "confused" because I didn't get that from:

Why? Why are you wasting $5,000 on this exhaust? I'm curious...

The guy never even said what he paid before you made the assumption he must've paid msrp. A link to your post about the deal or Motorcycleworks website would've made your post a little clearer. Our posts are often misinterpreted when corresponding via text. I try to articulate my posts to best get my point or question across in a clear and concise manner and still miss the point all the time.

I'm the first to avoid the Ducati tax. I prefer the pipe without the Ducati logo anyway. Prices on parts even in the aftermarket world are driving many of us to do at home options. That exhaust I posted was made in a garage. I'm also looking into doing my own rearsets and after sending some ideas and talking to a few shops it seems quite feasable.

Where'd you find the 1199 full system for $3300? Best I've found is $3750, and I can get the 1299 system with up-map for $4200.

Does anyone know if there is some sort of mid-pipe to delete the catalytic converter on the R? You know, for race use only.

Akra came with up-map. You have to have the dealer do the flash. Gets rid of any error codes that would be thrown by disconnecting exhaust valve.

They told me to not even key it on until I brought it down for the up-map after I did the install.

Threw it on the dyno. Top end gains are as stated, 2% to 185 rwhp. Mid-range, while already impressive on this bike, jumped substantially, maybe even more than the 7% they advertised.

Fit was pefect, finish is flawless as others have pointed out.

An interesting tidbit: I dyno'd it both with the DB killers and then removed them. Lost 2 hp without them; did several runs to verify. Leave them in!

There are no codes thrown by installing the akrapovic. At least not with the evo system. I can't see how the Ducati version would differ. There should be no codes at all.

I read somewhere that the 2015s throw a code now when you remove the exhaust flap connection.

Mine was throwing codes, even initially after the up-map, but the tech figured it out and all good now. We started looking to see if I'd missed an exhaust plug block-off, but nothing was included or specified for the kit.

Good to know as I'm sure this won't be the last time someone asks about this in the near future.

Unless there is something i am missing, the "upmap" is simply a preset map to alter air/fuel ratio to better utilize the aftermarket exhaust (similar to the preset maps you can download from Dynojet for your Power Commander).

It is the same as how Aprilia says if you install an aftermarket exhaust, you MUST go with a RACE ECU (or have your stock ECU flashed to the RACE mapping). The RACE mapping alters air/fuel ratios to make the bike run better with the aftermarket exhaust.

Running the bike without remapping it won't hurt anything, it is just that the air/fuel ratio will be off and the bike will run lean or rich. It is the same as any other bike when you install an exhaust and don't run a Power Commander or Bazzaz.

So my next question, does the upmap clear any codes?

I ask because I am getting an Akra full EVO exhaust, but I am getting it through my primary Sponsor (not Ducati). So I am sure it will not come with an upmap. But once the exhaust is installed, it will go on the dyno for a tune (for U4.4) with either a Power Commander or RapidBike.

If I don't do the upmap and simply install an exhaust and tuner to get the A/F ratio correct, will their be codes?

Double check to see if it will fit the 1299. According to the Mech's at Ducati the 1199 Akrapovics EVO full system wouldn't fit so the just added the slip on to their Demo bike. Something about length of the header but someone on this forum said it fits and they had a pic.

Interesting.

I had asked in another thread (even posted a link to the exhaust I wanted to purchase) and I was told it would fit.
