Just saw the 1299 full Akrapovic system at my dealers.

Today my dealer called me and told that my bike is in the shop. Shiny new 1299s. And since I was the first customer in Finland, who ordered 1299 already in November at the same day 1299 was introduced, the factory complimented me with a 50% discount from a full Akra!

$5000 for a motorcycle exhaust system is just unreasonable.
Has anybody at Ducati heard of the law of diminishing marginal returns?
There's a lot of other stuff that I'd rather drop 5k on.

There are just the Akra race cans available for the R (part number 96480891A) priced at $3800.. the full system with the header pipes and race cans applies only for the 1299 and 1299S

I was thinking more like super stock pipes/race kit

It IS unreasonable but they have little or no competition, the market is VERY small for this, and the manufacturing costs are higher than average.

Is this an April Fools joke? :D

I wonder if Termignoni will develop a competing system? Is there already one out? Someone on this forum also cores the exhaust for like 300 or 400. I don't need a bigger bite, I just want a bigger BARK!!!

It's not loud or deep enough. I wonder if the Akra sound is worth the money, since I couldn't possibly handle any more power ;)

Leo Vince and Arrow always made some nice deep sounding full titanium systems, to bad they won't partake in developing one for our bikes….

Man, that Akrapovic full system is an absolute work of art!! My local dealership just unpacked one and I got to get my hands on it... I may have fondled and caressed it a bit..

Seriously gorgeous, reeks of top quality. The welds are like nothing I have ever seen and even the internal welds/seams have been cleaned up and are almost invisible. The cast titanium header flange/pipe is amazing and the way they have joined the rest of the tubing to it is incredible.

The mufflers are similarly perfect and the whole thing is quite frankly beautiful.

It might be too nice to put on a motorcycle:D. If there was ever a piece of titanium that qualified as ...., this is it.

very cool. I am getting my bike next week with the full Akras. Very exited. They look and sound amazing.

Hopefully there will be more options in the next year or so. When I get my 1299 Base next year I would like to drop less than 4k on a exhaust lol.

I just wasted $2500 on a Termi full system brand new unopened here in Australia

I have seen several full Termi systems for the 1199 floating around (eBay, craigslist etc). They are typically about half the price of the Akra and since it will work on the 1299, im giving it a thought.

Anybody know if the ID of the Termi is the same as the Akra?

Why? Why are you wasting $5,000 on this exhaust? I'm curious...

I'm curious to know what you think the better option is then.

I also hate when people over the internet criticize others spending when they have no idea of their financial situation. I had a similar experience on another board when I said how much I was spending on a track bike. If that person has the disposable income then who cares? Your cost to benefit ratio isn't the golden standard for everyone.

I'm on the fence. $5k is hard to justify for an exhaust in my opinion. I'm leaning towards no. A good friend of mine has been making custom race exhausts for awhile now and does good work. He specialized in Buell/EBR's and with their current status, I talked him into trying Ducati's. I'll be giving my bike to him as a test mule for a few months. It won't be Akra sexy but I loved the last exhaust he built for me. His exhaust is also known for making more power than any other on the market for the 1125 series. Even beating out EBR's $2k full race system. A sample of his work:

Hi, in my years buying cars or motorcycles I know that the first purchase is always the sucker. Once you got in bed with a dealer, know the guys and visit them regularly they will take care of you with the next purchase. It's a two way street. You are a good customer and they'll want you back.

That said, its a little finesse and I am sure you can get the exhaust for a lot less, even install fees or taxes can be negotiated, if you buy the bike at the same time. Everyone knows there are margins and sales to be made every day. It's just a number game at the end and both have to feel happy about the deal.

Big dealers get usually once they sold above their quarterly quota retrospect even more percentage points back. An example is BMW. Usually their margins is 7-10% but with good sales they get 30%.

Right. The standard across the board seems to be 20% off parts with any new Duc purchase. I know my dealer has a "loyalty" program and this could be negotiated even more like you mentioned if you're a frequent customer.

I don't think many are actually paying MSRP, as seen already with a few posting real world prices above.
