I cannot find my original thread.... But at my 1st oil change I installed a K&N Oil filter amid some concerns from some with regards to its quality/effectiveness etc.... Especially since its less than one third the price of the Oem... Well My bike has now some 6500 miles on it...

I can report no known issues with the filter Oil still looks good ...No I didn't change it at 3000 miles :p.... and I intend to go this route when my oil change is due shortly..... I am making no superlative claims for this filter..but I just wanted to up the forum on it based on my experience...

Steve just wondering if you are hard on the engine? any Track Days on that filter?

Thanks for the post Steve. I have used K&N on all my cars and was told to not use them on Ducati's. Time to save money on oil changes.

Please understand this is in no way meant to be an endorsement and Ymmv.... This is just my experience...:)

Steve gotcha. My experience has always been good on the car side also what does ymmv mean lol nevermind google educated me

I'm going to do an experiment , purchase a selection of aftermarket & OEM filter cut them open, measure the flattened filter area, quality of media & oil bypass valve that clear up if it's worth running non OEM

Just wondering , did you get anywhere with this experiment? I am very interested in any results you have.

I don't think you could ascertain which filter is best without testing how well they filter. Perhaps you could set up a pressurized system that you could introduce various size and amounts of particulate matter, suspended in oil, measure the results.

I have no problem with K&N

Its their business.

Ducati is not in the filter biz per say, and while I trust their educated opinion, they are not the only game in town.

Just took the plunge and went with K&N, as said above "its their business"

My dealer did such a good job that I'm just trucking my bike to them for the services. It's only once a year. They even scrubbed my chain.

Since I'm nowhere near my service interval, but the bike sat all winter. I'll dump and replace the oil myself. But skip the filter.

As for the Scotts filter. Yes the race teams all use them. Those race teams also wear out engines every 4000 miles or less. They could replace the filter with a jelly bean and it wouldn't matter.
