Lava Heat Shield Map

Has anyone used this product?

I'm thinking about getting some to line the lower fairing and the existing interior of my carbon fiber heat shield and maybe even the metal heat shield as well. Just curious if anyone had used this product and had any experiences to relate.

I'm also considering this for the upper horseshoe portion of my header.

Lava Exhaust Wrap

keep in mind that wrapping generates more heat buildup under it, with possible harming of the metal. i had a heat shield tab break off under mine (titanium exhaust wrap) took it off and won't reapply.

I used Lava Mat as a liner inside the lowers of my '09 R1 race glass, under the Ti headers of the Graves system I mounted. The lowers were such a tight fit they contacted the the bottom of the lowers and I layered about 4 strips of the Lava Mat over the contact point. It didn't burn through but it did burn the paint up and blister on the outside of the lower so I wasn't exactly impressed, especially as they claim 1200 F constant, 2000 F intermittent protection. No way those headers get that hot so they didn't reflect/contain that heat. I ended up getting the thicker white heat shield sold at Autozone and did about 10 more layers on top of the Lava Mat. No more heat damage on the outside of the lowers with all of that.

So if there is no contact where you're putting the Lava Mat, I would put at least 10 layers of it just to be safe (it's pretty thin, so 10 layers should be that thick, maybe 1/8 inch).

Good luck!

I saw that as well. There feedback on Amazon is not the best and was looking for some products that rated higher.

Its all in the prep work. I've used the gold foil to shield my race bodywork on 2 bikes with very good success. If you don't get the surface prepped right then it wont stick, peels off and when it touches the pipes its no go.

I've used the other stuff on the inside of turbo heat shields on my car. It took the under hood temps way down and my intercooler is significantly cooler.

Next time I pull off the rear heat shield on my 1199 its getting the treatment. I've already done the bottom of the seat, just need to get to work and finish the rest of it.
