Well, Jor-gay pulled off another win today. Never liked the guy but he sure can ride when it counts. Seriously though, WTF is up with our brand and the poor showing? Hayden was cranking at the beginning and dropped off the face of the earth in only a few laps. Never mind Rossi and even getting near top ten. Must say im totally disappointed in Ducati when it comes to Moto GP. kudos to Crutchlow for doing so well riding with a broken ankle though!

So here's the golden question. Have any of you guys, or ladies of course, ever tried the infamous act of sticking your leg out before diving into any corners on the track? If so did it make any true difference to you at all? Seems like only the Europeans have been doing this and it hasn't caught on in AMA yet. Just wanted to poll the forum to see who has actually tried this.

Hope you and your bikes are all doing well. Just tucked mine in for the night here. Keep on thrashing those beauties!!

Stoner no longer has the will to race or compete at the highest level therefore there's no competition for Lorenzo. Barring a season ending injury he's going to run away with this years title. As for Ducati they're still suffering through the lack of front end feel and feedback. Rossi says it's getting better but his results don't indicate that. Lots of changes are scheduled to debut for Laguna so we'll see.

BS.

It's pretty much matching up the same way it did last year.
Lorenzo got a good lead at the start of the season and Stoner came back at the end of the season.
It would have been a nail biting last couple of rounds if Lorenzo hadn't crashed out at Philip Island.

Stay tuned, if Honda sort out the chatter, I reckon it'll be game on again!

And no, haven't tried the leg out thing cos I'd look like a:
a) nonce
b) try hard

i think ducati is, and always will be, a diva to ride. poor vale, he is a really nice and funny guy. nicky as well, of course.

try to teach an anatolian donkey farmer to ride an arab horse, or the other way round ;)
not the horse riding the farmer of course!

never pulled out a leg when trailbraking, only when coming sideways in very slow corners as a safety option... i think it looks weird at those speeds.

Someone once said that once you have lost the desire to compete that you should retire right then. By Stoner's own admittance he doesn't have the desire to race anymore. IMO, he should retire now, not at the end of the year. God forbid, but one monetary lapse of concentration on those machines and he could end up like Sic. :(

BTW, never tried the one leg thing but it is catching on in the AMA Daytona sportbike series. More and more guys are doing it each round.

He hasn't had the desire for years, and still won the championship last year.

I don't think it's over.
It's just that the punters have an excuse to point to when he doesn't win a race.

I can't stand Lorenzo and outside of Hayden and Spies I really like Stoner and hope you're right.

You don't come second in a moto gp race with no desire to ride...? That's nuts stoner has a job to do and will fulfil and I still think win the championship....

I think that's unfair to both Stoner and Lorenzo. These two guys are the best riders in the world right now. Out of 6 races, they've won all 6. If either of them get the setup wrong or have an issue, that's enough to relegate them to second place. Lorenzo is one of the best riders of this era, he earned those wins through his skill and determination. Not because Stoner has given up.

I don't know how anyone can declare someone has lost the will to compete from their armchair based on what amounts to 3 or 4 races. Especially when the rider in question only finished off the podium once in that stretch. If Stoner was languishing in the 7th or 9th you might have an argument.

Funny you should mention legs out. I was just watching this again today - last lap at Catalunya 2009. Mindblowing. Watch from 00:30.

Gtack - The Most Amazing Last Lap

I've seen this race a few times and get goosebumps everytime I watch it. Amazing.

And no, I haven't tried the "legs out" approach. I've been interested in trying it, but usually forget to. Maybe i'll put a sticky note in my visor next ride :)

I haven't declared anything. Stoner said it himself in an interview. He doesn't have the passion. I see it like short timers syndrome, you know those few days right before you go on vacation where you really don't want to do anything because you're leaving in a few lol. I can't help but think that given his retirement in a few months that he "might" not go that extra mile for the win. I could be wrong and again I hope that I am, Stoner is one of my favorite riders. But he said it not me.

i read he lost his rear tire traction from the 5th lap on and blamed it on the poor quality of the bridgestones... seems it has only been his tire (and vale's of course ;) )

not too bad of a job, 2nd place with an "end of race" tire from turn 5 on...

Stoner was already thinking about retiring last season when he won the title. He may not like the sport anymore, but the guy still wants to win and certainly would want to go out on top.

The guy is a competitor, I honestly can't say I've ever seen a race where he underachieved. Right now it just looks like the Lorenzo/Yamaha combo has the advantage.

I'm just glad Stoner announced he was retiring right after he won a race. Otherwise people would be saying he's retiring because Lorenzo is beating him.

On the leg out thing, Rossi said once that he does it to stop the bike from backing in. I think he was the first to do it so maybe that's it, or maybe he was just saying that to throw other people off. Either way I've never tried it on track and don't intend to until I understand the true principal at work.

I need my legs to clamp on the stompgrip on the tank. If you stick out your leg you can't clamp and all the braking forces are on the wrists. After some laps you will pump up your forearms. I can understand why cross or dirttrackers do it, but roadracers.
