The test ride EXPERIENCE: Ducati 1299 Panigale

Gents. Sorry for the delay. Had another appointment setup and rode another Pani. Figured I'd give it another shot on a different bike, different dealer and test ride area. I'm sorry to announce I didn't take the Panigale plunge in ownership. Its just not "the Ducati bike" for me for several aforementioned reasons. Awesome looking bike, just not for me.

Prior to riding the Panigale I tested a few other new(er) brands, including two other privately owned Ducati's. The two Ducati's seemed to be a better fit, but decided not to buy either of those from their private owners for various reasons.

However, I am happy to announce I did finally pick up a Ducati that is the better bike for me and then some! I scooped up a perfect 1-owner adult owned well maintained 9k mile '11 1198 SP and couldn't be happier. Came with tasteful mods, heat mod upgrades, performance upgrades and all documentation, to include verified service history, etc. Guess my 1299 days are short-lived around here. Anyway, I enjoyed the experience, thanks for letting me share it and took into consideration everything you Panigale 2-wheeler's shared with me. For that I'm greatful and appreciative. I learned something through this experience and it also made me seek out the same brand on a different platform, which was a total success. Thanks again......

1198 SP is a very good bike, I wish you a lot of safe miles on it.

Well your still welcome here. Even more welcome if you post pics of you on the new toy on the back wheel :)

What in particular did you like about the 1198 better than the Panigale?

I am really interested in his answer.

We all know that the Pani steers slightly to the inside of the corner, the 1198 rolls to the outside in default trim.

Let's wait his reply.

What in particular did you like about the 1198 better than the Panigale?

1. Less heat with the 1198. Its there, but not nearly as bad as the Pani. Honestly. The 1198 does have the exhaust coated.

2. Cooling? Meeh, about the same, just a bit lower riding/traffic temps. The air temp was about 15* cooler when I initially test rode the Pani vs the ride on the 1198 SP.

3. Most importantly - how I fit and felt riding the 1198 SP was much, much better experience (for me).

4. Cost of either bike was never an issue.

5. Insurance initially was an issue because I'd only spoken to one company. Few hours later it was not an issue any longer. As I looked around I found much more reasonable rates for either bike.

6. Regardless of either bike, my intent was not focused solely on handling/steering capabilities, although important. No plans to ever track it, so that really never fell into the equation. The same roads I've been riding since '86 on various bikes will be the same roads the 1198 SP will swing through. Those old bikes handled just fine as they were top bikes in their day, so I'm confident the 1198 SP will do well. I have no intent to drag my knees on canyon roads either. It will handle/steer just fine - no worries here.
