Hi, I have a 2006 Monster 620 that has some codes(3 I think). I got an adapter that converts the 3 pin to obd2. I have downloaded guzzidiag, tuner rt, and another program I can't remember. I can't find my bike in guzzidiag, I may not understand the ui if it's the correct program. The issue I'm having with the bike is that it starts up and idles fine. When you ride, the bike has no power and won't accelerate past idle. Any help or advice is very appreciated.

any obd tool should read the DTCs. i use AndrObd.
i like it because its handheld, usb, bluetooth

in guzzi/iaw Diag you have to know what (Marelli(only)) ECU you have.

What sources could I use to check my ECU? Or would it be on the unit itself?
Any OBD2 should work!!!
but they don't, I have a 2004 620 monster and 2006 620 Multistrada, I have the connectors ...two types, I have tried 3 different OBD2 units,,,,,,,they don't detect. fact

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue, but let's break it down step by step. Here's what you can do to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem with your 2006 Ducati Monster 620:

1. Confirm the Diagnostic Setup

  • Adapter Compatibility: Ensure the 3-pin to OBD2 adapter you're using is compatible with your Ducati. Some adapters may not work correctly with older Ducati systems.
  • Software Setup: GuzziDiag is a good choice for Ducati diagnostics, but you need to make sure you're using the correct version and settings:
    • Download the latest version of GuzziDiag from the official website.
    • Install the necessary drivers for the adapter (FTDI drivers are commonly required).
    • In GuzziDiag, select the correct interface (e.g., "ECU Scan" or "IAW Reader") and ensure the COM port is correctly configured.
  • Bike Selection: If your bike isn't listed in GuzziDiag, it might still work. The 2006 Monster 620 likely uses the IAW 5AM or IAW 59F ECU, so try selecting a similar model or ECU type.

2. Read the Error Codes

  • Connect your bike to the software and attempt to read the error codes. If GuzziDiag isn't working, try TunerPro RT or the other program you downloaded.
  • Write down the codes and look them up in the Ducati service manual or online forums. The codes will give you a starting point for diagnosing the issue.

3. Common Causes of Your Symptoms

Based on your description (starts and idles fine but lacks power under load), here are some common issues to check:

  • Fuel Delivery Issues:
    • Clogged fuel filter or weak fuel pump.
    • Dirty or malfunctioning fuel injectors.
  • Air Intake Issues:
    • Clogged air filter.
    • Vacuum leaks in the intake system.
  • Throttle Position Sensor (TPS):
    • A misaligned or faulty TPS can cause poor throttle response.
  • Exhaust Restrictions:
    • A blocked exhaust (e.g., clogged catalytic converter) can limit power.
  • Ignition Issues:
    • Faulty spark plugs, coils, or ignition wires.
  • ECU or Sensor Problems:
    • Faulty sensors (e.g., MAP sensor, oxygen sensor) can cause the ECU to limit power.

4. Basic Checks

  • Fuel System: Check the fuel pump pressure and inspect the fuel filter.
  • Air Filter: Replace if dirty.
  • Spark Plugs: Inspect and replace if necessary.
  • Throttle Bodies: Ensure they are synchronized and the TPS is calibrated.
  • Exhaust: Check for blockages or damage.

5. Advanced Diagnostics

  • If the error codes point to a specific sensor or system, test or replace the component.
  • Use the diagnostic software to monitor live data (e.g., throttle position, MAP sensor readings, fuel trim) while the bike is running. This can help identify irregularities.

6. Reset the ECU

  • After addressing any issues, clear the error codes and reset the ECU using the diagnostic software. This can sometimes resolve lingering issues.

7. Seek Professional Help

  • If you're unable to resolve the issue, consider taking the bike to a Ducati specialist or dealership. They will have the tools and expertise to diagnose and fix the problem.
