See the size of the rear sprocket, its bigger than the brake disc.

Jeez, I know the R6 doesn't have a lot of torque, but I bet that contributed some!!!

Lucky indeed that the SUV rear wheel didn't run over his arm/leg, but equally unlucky that the Civic didn't just brake and stay on the road, as they would have missed each other.

When your trying to avoid something, they always say to just aim where the car/bike currently is :(

True enough, but who knows the story of the Civic driver? Could be his first time there, distracted as he was coming up to the big curve on the Snake and there are tons of cars/riders/people on the shoulder to his left, or combination of all the above. Seemed like he just looked up to see the R6 and rider sliding towards him, and might have barely even seen that as the SUV in front of him (Civic driver) just managed to jink out of the way and avoid the collision. Without POV video from the Civic driver's perspective we can't judge his skill or lack thereof. Either way, it's not his responsibility to avoid a low-siding rider on a public road.

I think that's good advice, but sometimes when a car is pulling out in front of you they'll see you late then slam on the brakes. So if you were aiming to go where they initially were (when they first pulled out) you might hit them when they stop.

That said I recently totaled my 750 on the street when a car pulled out in front of me to make a left and I swerved across the double-yellow hoping he would stop. Even though the driver was looking directly at me, he never stopped so I had to jump off the bike before impact. I should have just kept straight and braked and I would have been able to miss his car.

I got into an accident a while back when a driver beside me switched into my lane and hit my front wheel. Manage to keep from high siding but ended up low siding. While I was sliding on the ground I thought the car behind me was going to run over me as I came to a stop somehow I was on my feet I though about running into the next lane to prevent the car behind me from running me over but as started to run into the next lane something told me not too because the car will most likely swerve into that lane so I stopped and sure enough the lady would have hit me. I think its a natural reaction for people to swerve out of the way because even for a the 1199 60 mph to 0 is about 126 feet and your average cars is worse. the lady ended up about 30 feet in front from where I was standing.

Sorry to hear this, however happy to hear that you walked away from it.

Don't know about you guys stateside but over here in Spain they have zero concept about breaking distances. You can be doing 120kph up the motorway & they will be driving right up on your rear. No more than 2 meters sometimes.

Thanks it was a very long time ago. Walked away with road rash on my left arm and left leg. Painful stuff having the Doc scrub the asphalt out and I prefer broken bones over road rash any day. This was the last time I rode with jeans and its amazing how jeans just shred like paper. Every time I see someone riding with jeans and just a shirt I cringe. Only Leathers or motorcycle textile from that day on. Had a few low slides since and walked away with only a broken ego.

I put 6000+ plus a year on my bikes and haven't crashed since 1983. I guess I ride like a poseur. It seems to be safer.

Lucky it wasn't a SUV the R6 rider hit. Friend of mine lowsided in the exact same manner, hitting a SUV at 50+. We miss him like hell.
