Previous thread of mine asking questions and info about the MAP sensor.
Diagnostic test showed vertical sensor failed, I checked with a multi meter and sure enough dead short on the vertical MAP sensor, to test> three wires, earth, 5 volts in and signal out, if 5 volts out of the signal wire then dead short, failed sensor.
I think it was caused by a back fire on start up with my new slip ons fitted, I am sure the back fire blew out the MAP sensor as its only a silicon membrane inside, note the exhaust valve was disconnected and maybe did not help.
Research found a Diaval site thread that answered my questions, why was my bike running OK when the ECU light was on and engine warning lamp lit up.
Diavel thread goes like this so I guess Pani the same, 2 sensors, one for each cylinder, when one fails the reading comes off the good other sensor, if both fail then there is a parameter set so the bike will run. After 20% of throttle it does not use the MAP signal only throttle and speed sensing, so hence did not notice a running problem, though it did stall on me once.
I bought a sensor when I got back in the UK, left side electric box both are located, wiring is labeled vertical/horizontal, just connected the new sensor to test and ECU warning lamp gone.
Now the cheating bit, no need to remove the tank, get a 5mm allen key socket bit, drop it into the bolt that holds the sensor, undo with a spanner, the nut is captive in the plastic, unclip the hose, reuse the clip, fit new MAP sensor, run bike. This will save you a load of cash as the dealer will remove the tank etc.
If anyone needs more info drop a line, check pictures to make sense of the above babble!
Also the dealer said they sold a few lately but mainly for the 899.

Quick question. How much for the Map sensor?

Check ebay.co.uk but without digging the reciept out think it was 80 £, 130 $ ish.
I read your thread, by the time they test, rip the bike to bits it costs but 700 was too much, if both were gone with removing the tank the most it would have took would be hour and half, as you see I cheated and took half hour.

I ordered 2 map sensors today and going to do the work myself. There's no way I'm going to pay that much to fix it when I can do the work myself. When you replaced the sensors did the engine light go off or did you have to have it reset?

Replaced both map sensors today. Light is gone and the bike is running like new again!!
I am happy it worked out, lot of people help me on this forum.
So the final cost? and time it took, I take it you did it yourself?

Final cost after 2 sensors and the charge for the diagnostic was $290 and I did the work myself. It took roughly a few hours but only because I checked the wiring and connections to check for any other possible issues.

I do a simple mod to all my Panigales. The front cylinder sensor isn't a problem, but the rear one is right next to the cylinder head, and overheats if you're racing, or it's running hot in Summer. I use a self-adhesive fire-resistant heat shielding, a small square of it, and place it between the sensor and motor.
No more problems. :D

Hi Blue guy, possible to share a pic of how you installed the heat shield?

I run my Panigale in summer and my map sensor is spoilt. I need a solid solution :(

I recently had 1 of the map sensors replaced on my 1199 and the dealer tried to charge me for the part ($130) and 1 hours worth of labor ($125). This seemed like a very reasonable price so I'm not sure where the $700 price came from as mentioned in an earlier post. The shop guy didn't check if I had a warranty before quoting me that $255 total cost but my extended warranty took care of the total cost and he was apologetic for not checking that before quoting me. Dealer also delivered my bike (30 miles) free of charge. Great guys over there at Pro Italia!

One sensor spoilt must change both

Hi guys, diagnostics show that my vertical sensor is spoilt. Now a lot of people are telling me that if one sensor is spoilt I must change both, because if one sensor malfunctions the other follows.

How true is this? And how's the experience of people who just changed one sensor?

Appreciate your comments!

Mine died too, took it to the Ducati dealer. He replaced the vertical MAP sensor without removing the gastank, 130€ in total, for sensor and 1 hour labor cost

Robinhood was looking for this, I dont know what happend to the pictures and I cant seem to upload pictures like before

Out of curiosity, if a backfire caused the MAP sensor to go, can't it just happen again? Or did you change something afterwards?
