Melted spot on dash

DNA told me to .... in my hat when i brought up to the dealer that my dash was fogging. they then wanted a picture. i was going to offer to pour a cup of water on it while it sat there running. this way, they could have their picture and they didn't even let me get that far before saying... "we won't be replacing it under warrantee." but they didn't hesitate to do so with my front end... i'm guessing because a "fogged dash" can't kill you.

That is ..... Try another dealer and take a pic. I had mine hanged but had to take pics of it.

i think it can cover the speedometer and that is braking the law

others would say that covering the speedo is dangerous. so how is fogging up no different?

i'm on my 4rd dealer... it's a VERY long story.

the best part? i had all my fairings off the bike. the time saving to replace the dash was big considering what they bill to remove the fairings.

it happened that DNA Head Service Writer actually addressed my bike. he had lots to say about it including the after market exhaust. and even warned me that a part that failed LONG before my exhaust was on the bike that it was HIS belief that the exhaust caused it (totally not true) and wasn't water (DDS unit)... anyway, I don't wish to interrupt this thread.

my only point is that don't be surprised when they say no for just fogging. they'll prob want it to burn from the diode. i'm not looking to pour water on my bike or really even wash it moving forward... but before my warranties is up, I'm going to have to find a way to get it to fog in front of them or snap a pic after getting caught in the rain or otherwise... no dice. I can only repot to you guys what i was told and EXACTLY how it all went down.

sorry to bump an old thread, but my dash suddenly did this the other day....

wtf???

problem is, 2012 and out of warranty :( am I screwed... ?

Australia btw so not dealing with DNA.

Oh and for another point, this has the DP race screen and its WA_Fatboy's bike that had the issue being the start of this thread. He said it's happened 3 times counting this one.

Its a known problem

Hi it's a known problem I've had the exact same thing happen to me I was at a set of traffic lights on day and I literally watched it burn in as my bike got hotter. Ducati totally denied it trying to blame it on uv damage even though I had never left Mt bike in the sun ONCE. The second time it happened to me it was the reflection off the DP Screen it magnified the sun across the dash and melted it with 10mins the DP Screen can definitely burn your dash not that ducati would ever admit it.

With all the dash issues, has anyone gone aftermarket? I wonder if there is an AIM Pista or Translogic that would work.

If I recall correctly there's a warning sticker on the screen that covers its ability to magnify/focus light.

had the same problem! its the sun! i have race wind shield cover your screens with some thing (gloves) all done!

Ironic this post is up. I just noticed my fancy new burn mark a few days ago. Dealer is submitting claim. Andddd this will be my second dash.

Anddddd, I get to deal with the "milage can't be reset" stupidity.

Had the dash changed under warranty on my '13. The service rep told me it was prolly my ZG screen that caused it. He said this had happened on some Gixxers with aftermarket screens too.

Sine then I always toss my gloves over the dash whenever the bike is sitting in the sun.

Mine was replaced, mileage is now off... But at least I don't have a burn mark. I make sure I point nose to the sun when I park the bike. Early am/pm is when you need to worry. Low sun angle reflects off of the inside surface of the windscreen. But I digress. I'm sure everyone has heard this before...

Right but, I had my previous dash since day one, with the aftermarket windshield on it and it never got burned, it only had the fogging issue. Now I am on my second one, same windshield, and it burned. And I rarely park it in the sun, always indoors, and even when I am out riding, I find somewhere up on a sidewalk near a building to park. I am skeptical on the magnifying glass theory.

I am also tempted to have them put the old dash back on, so my millage is closer to correct.

I got a melted dash on my '12 as well. Just happened at the end of this riding season. Like others, mine was always garaged and/or parked in a shaded area. It's had an aftermarket windscreen on it since new. Nothing changed in the last 5000 miles and then it decides to burn.

My guess is either a solar flare reflecting off of Mars or highly localized global warming.

Still gonna ride it like I stole it...

And here we go. Round One.

Dealer called me. Ducati is denying my claim about my melted dash. They said its "environmental" and that the windscreen magnified the sun and it damaged it.

Well no ....... ..... I guess I am going to have to battle DNA Monday.

But the dealer did say that when I call they won't blow me off, I will prob get positive resolution.
