More Power or Less Weight?

I have BST cf wheels, SICOM disks, PROTI Ti bolts on my disk carriers and callipers and TSS ergal sprocket carrier and quick change sprocket (525) and Ti banjo bolts front and rear to reduce my unsprung weight. There is still a lot to do though... The Dragon Lady turns effortlessly with increased acceleration and improved braking while being super stable. :p

Without the burden of weight the RGV500 can be guided into any of the turns here at Silverstone with unbelievable speed - and still hit the apex. Try doing the same speed on the heavier GSX-R1000 and it would completely miss the corner, fly to the edge of the track and off into the barriers. "

Or to paraphrase an old baseball axiom "Horsepower wins highlights. Cornering wins podiums. " ;)

So I suppose the question now is: who here would actually buy a 60hp, 275lb bike? And at what price?

(The 60hp/275lb weight is quite realistic. Ducati made just such a bike in 1993 (the Supermono) and, though it was full-race and lacked street legal parts, it's been 21 years since then, so I highly doubt the numbers couldn't easily be exceeded for a production bike in 2014.)

I'd be in, but I think you'd be hard pressed to get one that light in full street trim. KTM's current 690 duke is a claimed 329lbs with the tank empty, and 450 class motocrossers are around 240. I think 300 might be reachable without going too nut$ on materials, and 75HP could be pretty easily had out of one. The Duke retails at $9K now, so you would be looking at $10K+ for a more serious, RC-style version, or around $2K less if the bike came out of a Japanese company. I've ridden a 690 and would be all over one done up sportbike-style.

My real disappointment over the years with Ducati is that they never productized the Supermono.

I'd love a serious sport single. And if it had the equivalent chasis/suspension setup goodies of an 1199S, I'd pay high teens/low 20s for it.
