I remember waiting for a part from Ducati and it was Italy's vacation time. Patience is required at times and always a spare bike to ease the wait.
also I dont think 1 month waiting is enough to start going crazy. maybe 2+
Italy IIRC has Holidays in August?
So about three years ago we had a problem with a very Italian Helicopter it was an Augusta 109, it needed a small part about the sise of a shoe box and OEM specification only.
One call to the facility from our technical department to the skeleton staff had the part sent Holidays or not, Heli was in the air within 5 days from the breakdown?? So guys Im not buying this rubbish about we need to be patient we need to accommodate and we need to be prepared to hang about for a month or 3 while the bike gets sorted out.
Ok so Im the difficult one Im the nob who cant understand why this is an issue....
I live in a world where concrete can set underwater, data can be sent around the world in seconds, we can fly around the world both-ways in less than 24 hours if needed ... yet when it comes to the worlds most coveted brand in bike we are all so compassionate for the dealer so patient with the factory ....
I think you are overreacting.
BTW it's called https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferragosto, most of Italy is shut down for 1-2 month!
If you want aerospace industry support levels, you're wrong with all Italian motorcycles, indepent of the price you payed. Just my 2 cents.
And for Christ's sake, it's Agusta, not Augusta
Captain Greg,
hey man, I do understand that you are frustrated and you are venting to us (forum) because you are upset. Hope everything works out.
Vet I was simply pointing out that dealers who are serious about client retention will go the extra mile, I'm sure Lexus would have done the same?I don't normally respond, but hey got nothing better to do so here goes.
Nobody cares about your v8, how much money you have or how important you are.
Your emails continuously imply all of the above.
When doing correspondence/ litigation , stick to the facts. Only. Never get personal.
When you get personal no one gives a damn for you anymore and quite frankly go out of their way to make it more difficult for you.
I am sure no one is scared of the dealers or Ducati as you so mentioned. Maybe they just have better people skills.
Try catching a bee with honey, not with vinegar.
And if your Ducati is so bad and the service sucks so bad and as you said, you would piss the money of a Panigale against a wall, sell it and move on.
Captain Greg,
hey man, I do understand that you are frustrated and you are venting to us (forum) because you are upset. Hope everything works out.
The only drawback to venting on this forum (And I just read this entire post and it was really funny) is that no one cares ESPECIALLY Ducati. Honestly does anyone here think anyone from factory support reads this and cares about people's problems with their bikes ? This forum is filled with generally three types of people. 1. People whos bike is broken and they are looking for a group consencious about the cause. 2. People who just like the banter and are fans of the bike. 3. Fanboys who firmly believe there is nothing wrong with the bike, it never breaks down, and if it threw a connecting rod thru the block and shattered your ankle it would just be "Italian charm."
At the end of the day, its a very cool bike, people look and stare, it gets mad pictures, and its regularly broken for a variety of reasons. I literally had to buy a pickup truck to transport the bike to the dealer it broke so much. And I STILL loved the bike. There is nothing you can do to get past the last part, but bitching and moaning in your pretentious V8 owning post makes you look like a pompous a$$ and doesn't solve your problem. Not name calling, you are pretty funny also, but just post the problem and see if someone has seen the screen issue, and that SA Ducati sucks. (Which I've read before).
NOLA
(edit)...Forgot to add....P.S.....your dealer thinks you are a .....
You guys make me smile...a few posts back Vet said quote: try catching a bee with honey and not vinegar?
I had to chuckle because that is exactly what Ducati did with me, the sales office knew I was on the fence and could have gone toward a new (available) rice burner.
But I was seduced by this:
1) Dont worry we will have a full dealer in Cape Town by the time your bike is in SA
2) We will carry a full compliment of spares locally for the Panigale
3) We are offering the most comprehensive two year warranty a no quibble dealer Warranty
So now my bags obviously empty from ejaculating, I believed all of the above and instantly demanded an invoice and paid for the bike.
Now as it turns out the Dealer You all love and are rushing to defend can not even carry a quickshifter in stock for the Pani??? WTF that part that fails is only about 30 Euros?
So now Im unreasonable to think that they could carry such an expensive component? A part they know is a weakness?? One would think they could be pro active? possibly do a recall at the clients convenience and above all the unforgivable mistake is? no official communication advising a client of the progress and a plan - in business communication with clients is key!
Yet some of you seem to somehow miss the thrust of it and focus on my tong in cheek stab at them
And you think I care what they think about me?? In retrospect Im not angry with the dealer its just that I took the month from 23rd December completely off until 25 January 2017 and had aspirations of taking the Pani on a cross country tour with three other mates - guess how this has compromised our trip that took took 6 months of planning, paying all accommodation, sorting all logistics with a number of parties - so I sat with my .... in my hand and waved my mates off with the other.
My other bikes were not suitable for the trip, as the other guys are on Superbikes and the idea was to periodically hook up a bit of speed when the road permitted.
I also think many of you are far to serious, I dont take life to serious, I laugh A LOT, and glad some can see the dark humor in my attitude.
If the dealer (the dealer that thinks Im a ....) then Im glad At least I drove home in neon lights some major shortcomings with service delivery I will not even mention the lies I was told (read above) by three people at Ducati SA
So as it stands now there is no urgency from my side because Wednesday is the 25th, and the month long Holiday is over - I would of course like to get it back and one can only hope she will be as reliable as some have suggested.
Then to end off I may add that I offered to pay for the screen the DQS and the airfreight to reduce the down time I suggested that once the dust has settled they could reverse the costs once they have adhered to the internal warranty process that is in place with Ducati locally and abroad essentially saving me the frustration of waiting ...but all that fell on deaf ears
But its ok I have been judged .....as I say I wait to hear from all the big guns on this forum when one day they find themselves in my shoes.
But I appreciate we dont use the same cobbler
Well I'm brand-new to this, so I'll be fairly thorough...
I just purchased a 2016 Ducati 1299 base model April, 2016. About 3 months after I purchased it, I noticed a little dribble of coolant that had leaked onto the garage floor. To cut to the chase, it has been in the shop 3 times to try and solve the same leak. The dealer service manager said when he spoke to Ducati engineers in Italy, they knew what the issue before he even went into any detail, but have yet to redesign a replacement part, nor have they issued a recall or even issued a service bulletin. The dealer replaced the "squirter"... and replaced what they called the thermostat housing.(from what I've read, these are the same thing)
I literally hired an attorney to look into the lemon laws in my state, so I haven't picked up my bike since they "fixed it", yet again.
My chain rubs against the swingarm also... The dealer says that's "normal".
The display panel has had some kind of a smudges under the plastic cover since it was brand-new... The dealer said they would replace it under warranty, but that they wouldn't really suggest that because someone might suspect mileage tampering when I got ready to trade it or sell it... I agreed.
The engine has died when down-shifting before stop lights, and at some lower RPM's in parking lots three or four times since it was new.
I'm assuming that the problem with the temperature shooting up to 236-240°, CONSTANTLY at stoplights, was also a consequence of the coolant leak.
To say the least, I'm not a happy camper...
I've owned used Japanese bikes, and a new Triumph, and if I combined all of their issues together, they don't even come close to this new 1299's plethora of issues.
Being that this is my first Ducati, I'm not the least bit impressed with the quality. I thought Ducati had their crap together in the 21st-century...
All that being said, I do realize that this one bike is not representative of every 1299 built, nor is it representative of Ducati's brand quality in whole. But Jesus, really?? I've read about more problems with this particular bike on this forum than I've ever read about any singular bike before.
Any thoughts?
