Everybody uses a V4 except Yamaha and previously Suzuki right? I believe it's at least 25 HP from the terminal velocity on the long straights. If we actually knew the drag coefficients we could calculate it.

Why V engine produces more power than I ?

Is it all related to ability to use different cam profiles at high rpm?

Does V design inherently more revvy than I design?

Maybe a V produces more because the crank can be lighter and less is needed for primary balance. I think this was one of the reasons Honda went with V5 initially because they figured a way to do it without having to balance it primarily

Japanese bikes got their arse kicked again at COTA and will get ass kicked tomorrow to. I imagine that Repsol must be getting a bit pissed off now. Cause we are not seeing any of their bikes in the front or middle. It seems Yamaha corporate doesn’t give a .... about it either.

Repsol has already shown their displeasure as they’ve downgraded their sponsorship this year

I was at cota . it was no snoozefest . motogp is prototype racing and wsbk is homologated racing . if you put a part from production bike on a motogp bike it would be a violation of the rules. wsbk is production bikes with small modifications. metallurgy is a key factor in why I4's in production bikes vs I4's in motogp are apples and oranges. I4 rev higher all things being equal(in production bikes with traditional firing order especially) a production I4 is competitive with other production bikes because they are limited by mass production development metallurgy and limited development cost and streetabiltiy. most motogp I4's are not traditional firing order(so cannot be compared). and motogp has way more prototype metallurgy advantages in manufacturing engines that can be v4 or L4 configuration with higher revs than any production bike could ever have. wsbk and motogp are non comparable in development that the engines areo and configuration are from another plane of existence . I4's in motogp were competitive until their front weight advantage (turning) was taken away by winglets that helped with downforce in turns. I4's in motogp were tuned to give traction rather than rev's because the potential for A i4 in prototype racing is very high but v4's had a pause in the firing order which equates to more traction. generally speaking revvs are not the deciding factor in motogp development of engines.

Finally watched the main race. It was definitely much better than the first 2 races but no banger like the WSBK ding dongs that have been had over the last year. GP lacks the panache of the Rossi era where it seemed like racing was like art or a delicate ballet. Martin, MM, and Bagnaia just seem desperate to make passes. It’s like they’re playing bumper cars. Pedro definitely animated the race which is good to see. No quarters there. Maverick looked imperious. Just had better pace than everyone even despite getting gangbanged on the first corner. Let’s see how his form translates over the rest of the season and when he’s met with adversity. I see him mentally imploding at the first sign of challenge like he did in the past at Suzuki, Yamaha, and Blusens. But it was 7 laps of procession at the end which kind of took the wind out of the race. I’d rate it 5/10. Mediocre.
