Motorcyclist Comparison

No shocker there, S1000RR is the hp king

1299 should fare pretty well at the track (and any roll-on contests)

Edit - would have been interesting to leave the 1299 wheelie control on 1 or 2 and see if it was quicker, with it off it's going to wheelie immediately in first gear. I'm surprised they didn't experiment.

You know what's dumber than a superbike drag race...a thread about a superbike drag race ;)

Check the comments under the vid...those are dumber than dumb

They're fun to watch and pretty much all of us at one time or another have had fun with friend's to see who was fastest. Nothing dumb about this the only thing dumb are the people who get their panties in a twist over these things or actually take definitive proof that tenths of a second with multiple variables determines which bike is the best. It still comes down to preference

I thought the hp numbers were interesting. Most notable to me was the lack of power out of the r1 in comparison to the super fast lap times that have been recorded by other mags.

Yeah the R1 HP numbers seemed low but the weight looked like it was probably accurate. I just think there are too many variables in drag racing these bikes in a straight line to be consistent to show the best possible time. Then there's the fact I see no value in a drag race since these bikes aren't drag bikes. Just my opinion tho...

R1 is limited from the factory (at least US bikes) - it has another 10+ hp in it

Drag race is interesting because it demonstrates hp, especially terminal speed

I'm guessing the Ducati and the Yamaha would benefit more from derestricting than the BMW. Something along the lines of how the zx10 came to the states neutered.

The fact that the 1299 got left that bad off the line indicates they couldn't launch it and they should have left wheelie control at least on 1

Wow, 3 bikes running exactly the same times. Yay.

Hopefully their full on review is more interesting. God, American moto journalism absolutely sucks.

1/4 mile and dyno runs are par for the course, have you been living under a rock?

RR World shootout is the one I'm waiting for, but I expect the R1 will prevail overall

The more interesting thing is the difference in ho numbers from MCN. MCN had the 1289 on top, above the BMW. They should have left the WC on for all bikes. But I agree, stupid test.

Im trading my 1299 in now. After my friends see this they will laugh at me and remove my vest as king of the streets:(

Your first comment is right on. These bikes are so hard to launch that it would take Ricky Gadsen making 20-30 runs on each bike to tell which is the drag race king. But in the hands of a very experience tester the trap speed is generally a good indicator. The results really show how evenly matched they actually are.

I have competitively road raced motorcycles, and have done a little drag racing in Corvettes. I don't get the negative comments about drag racing. True gear heads suck up any sort of performance contests. When I play golf I try to catch the golf cart in front of me just for giggles and grins.
