It idiots like you that cause my insurance premiums to go up.

Iff you want to go 181 why not go With ....... Honda cbr1000rr it will go 181 why spend 20k on bike that its a ....... Dog, Ups my bad You want to look good for the next Squid rider.

To each his own. i dont care about going 181mph on the highway. I care about handling characteristics and overall feeling of the bike. Ive had a couple of ducatis and by far this is the best one I've had. 181mph for a twin cylinder is pretty darn good. With 200 miles on the odometer Im sure you bikes was still getting lose and within break in period. I am also pretty sure that the S model would have been faster due to weight advantage. Either way, as I said before, to each his own and if you really wanna break the sound barrier on the street go get yourself a busa or a zx14. Out

Are you sure about videos off pani hiting 187 on gps or just in your head. I was Wide ....... Open ALL ....... night it dint wana go pas 181 As for trimed superstock iff you got 4500$ for race ECU And some more than you right im going to hold on that ....... As for this moment the bike its ....... Slowwwwwwwwwwwww.
Absolutely, its on youtube like everything else lol. Pani S in Race mode. The bike hits 300kmh (which is 186mph) then the readout goes ---. So either US 1199s are electronically governed at 181 or something is a miss.

Here you go my friend. Notice it's still pulling when the the readout goes to ---.

THe panigale is limited electronically up to 300 kph. There is a slight error in the speedo though. Just like every other bike the speedo seems to be optimistic and the true speed is 181mph on a GPS. If you were able to take the limiter off the system, maybe by tricking the ECU, the bike would be able to run close to 200mph. Not that I care.

A slight error is 1 maybe 2 mph not 5. But then again, at that speed maybe the margin of error grows?

I noticed no one asked how many miles you have onearmbandit. I'm noticing every time I get on this bike it seems faster and faster. I only have 500 miles now. I also read that after the first oil change people are feeling a noticeable increase in power, and even again after 1400 miles. I ran this bike with my friend and his S1000 and I definitely feel with some tweaking it will be as fast for sure. Also this is the very time a double bubble would make or break 181 mph. keep that in mind too.

It is based on percentage. at 60 mph it could be 2 miles an hour,at 100mph it could be 4 and at 186 it could be 5. Thing is the bike could easily fly past that speed because it has the power for it. IT is electronically limited to an indicated 186mph which translates to 181 mph in GPS

My dealer told me that the panigale is limited to 120hp for the first 600 miles then they unlock the 195 at the service. So you can have the 195hi or lo but the only thing that changes from wet is throttle response.

Mislead

What dealership told you this buddy? They need to study up a bit more on their history since this is not the case at all. That was spoken about in the development stage but did not come to fruition. Essentially he is saying that if one uses it in either Race or Sport modes they will only obtain 120hp regardless of it saying you are in 195hp high or low? No sir, not true.

Yeah you are probably right... I didnt see much logic in that either.

Hey Bandit why so aggro? Anyhoo you could probably write a great review if you wanted to. You do things with bikes most other people only dream of, wreckless or not. Put your skills to good use. I am curious what the bike feels like up to its top speed; is it as quick or quicker than the ZX10? Was it running hot? Was it steady or twitchy? Did you have a cam on the panni? If so where is the video?

Speedometers are always optimistic to comply with law.

Usually, it's more optimistic at slow speeds than at fast speed ; at fast speed, you can usually take off 3-5kph off the speedometer to know your real speed.

When you hit 300 on the speedometer, it doesn't mean your bikes stop accelerating ; just, the speedometer won't tell you because of an european gentlemen agreement made in order to avoid bikes to be castrated by the law.

As for the motor, the motor will free itself up until 8.000 km.

In fact, if we have to tell about a real break-in period, in km :

- Factory: initial break-in
- 0 - 1.000: owner first break-in
- 1.000-2.500 : owner second break-in
- 2.500 - 8.000 : motor last break-in

After, you might get some more power, but usually, at 8.000 km done the motor delivers its full power and won't go faster without modifications. At this point, you can bring your bike to the dyno to see what it really has into its guts. Any dyno made before that is just irrelevant, and I am always surprised nobody even points that out while it is a well known fact since decades.

(I do understand why the magazines don't, since they don't keep the bike until they hit 8.000 km to then bring them to the dyno. They just don't tell, and compare dynes from different bikes with different mileage, and they talk like these are absolute numbers wile knowing they indeed are not. But they have pages of ads to sell, so... But the end users and fora commenters don't have any excuse about that.)

I would say that the motor last break-in (2.500 - 8.000) is when you should push it hard like you stole it, not before. After that, just enjoy without thinking !

Yeah, I agree with you here. I have noticed some car magazines will do this on their long-term test cars (not dyno, but check performance between brand new and with a lot of kilometers or miles). They'll test the performance when they first receive it, and then at the end of the long term test, which is usually after tens of thousands of miles. Almost always, the car is quicker (better acceleration), and faster (higher top speed) after the engine is fully loosened up after a lot of kms/mls. Occassionally, the car won't get any quicker or faster at the end of the test, but be about the same as when it was new. But more often than not, there is a significant increase in performance after a lot of miles have been on the engine.

This thread is absolutly squidtastic! And here I thought owning a Ducati and being on this site might eliminate the Gixxer.com crowd. Clearly I was wrong. Please sell it and enjoy your other bikes.

Interesting? Obviously there are several break-in theories but my dealer said to ride it like I stole it from the get go.
