Hey all, new to Ducati and recently picked up a 22 V4S. I was just finishing up a ride on the trainer in the garage and was a bit delirious afterward. I was staring off into space and it hit me like a ton of bricks! MY NEW BIKE HAS THE WRONG FORK ON IT!!! My bike has the older Ohlins forks off the previous generation V4 and not the NPX 25/30 gas-charged fork. Has this ever happened to anyone???

(Not sure why it’s flipping my photos upside down)

At first I thought I was taking crazy pills but then looked at a photo the dealer sent.

I’m super upset with myself for not catching it before taking ownership of the bike. But glad I caught it now. Anyone have any contacts at Ducati NA that can help resolve this? Hoping this doesn’t turn into a nightmare. Also how did this escape Ducati QC???

Rotated the image for you. Looks like you are right, they put the wrong forks. They used older Ohlins NIX-30 forks.

Thats a no brainer, get them replaced, all the marketing hype emphasises the gas forks with extra travel....

This is shocking! No pun intended.

And should be posted in as many Facebook groups as possible.

They need to sort out that QC asap.

Is it even compatible with the revised ECU?
It shouldn’t be, I looked into getting the 2022 forks for my 2020 bike so I could keep the electronic adjustments while upgrading the fork, the 2022 forks are not ECU compatible with the 2020 ECU, one would think you couldn’t go the other way.

I don’t see how it wouldn’t work. The Ohlins is nothing more than a rebound adjuster on one fork a compression adjuster on the other that have motors attached to them.

Dynamic suspension control is all built into that too…it’s not just the adjusters, it all has to work together, if it faults it’s all or nothing

That I dunno, but Ducati told me I could NOT use the 2022 forks with my ECU

I think that’s more of a software thing. The adjusters are just motors with a long rod and a needle on the end to control flow.

If you run DES fixed it won’t matter at all.

The hard part would be determining if the Ohlins EC (the suspension’s controller) is making all the DES dynamic decisions and it’s that software which would have to be updated or if the ECU had a hand in it.

DDS and by extension Texa can force software updates. Could you get a local Ducati tech to even attempt it? Probably not.

I’m a little worried that I don’t have the engine “upgrades” or swingarm pivot changes of the 2022 bike. Are there any noticeable differences between the 2021and 2022 engine and chassis that would confirm these things?

Does your bike have black rear sets and black swing arm pivot clamp like the pic?

It does have the black rearsets and pivot carrier. Does the swingarm pivot also run through the engine?

Build date is Jan 2022. So it must be one of the first of the 2022 bikes to be built which is unnerving. The dealer also called me to let me know that they’ve opened a warranty ticket. Left a VM with Ducati NA customer service.

The dealer should be able to verify what software version is on everything and that its current for a 2022.

@Steven31371 The fact that these forks work and don't show error codes tells me the 2022 V4S forks would work on an older bike.

@SuperDomestique can you put it into DES fixed in whatever mode the bike is in and test the max settings for compression and rebound on the forks to verify the adjusters work and see how it reacts?

Crazy situation, but I am sure they will rectify in good time. Also interesting to learn that the forks will be backwards compatible.
