I'm on my second Pani R. Both have spent time split between road and track use.
Neither have been oil burners.
Not going anywhere near an engine running in discussion
This is all a bit interesting. I did not get the R as I knew the whatever i was going to start with was going to come apart as soon as i got it. My intention was to change the crank, rods and valves and retain a more civilized piston ring arrangement and get the motor the 1299 to rev as fast as the 1199R. In addition to the original motor, I have purchased 4 additional 1299 motors all with very low miles. Two of them came from ebay and the others from salvage. All of the motors were torn down for projects. The specs on these motors varied quite a bit. The first motor was torn down at 600 miles. I honestly do not recall this motor ever burning oil and that seemed evident by the exhaust ports and exhaust manifolds. The motor was rebuilt to the new specs and now had over 5K miles on it. The exhaust ports again are astonishingly clean for 5K miles (yes it has a secondary management system from startup)and the engine has never ever leaked one drop of coolant. One of the used motors had 700 miles on it and looked like it burned oil from birth. Additionally two of the motors had signs of coolant leaking. I guess the message is, there are good motors and not so good motors. Some people have zero issues with fluids. Some seem to have issues with all the fluids. I do know when the #1 motor went back together that it probably received a bit more attention to detail that the assembly line gave it.
To the OP, in your defense, it isn't that hard to do. Just a little bit of lean on the bike will make the oil disappear from the sight glass. That is the case on all bikes. They need to be perfectly level in order to get an accurate reading.

if i remember correctly there was somebody else on here that no oil was in the bike. i used search but that feature is useless but im positive somebody on here had no oil in their bike from the dealer
Hi Guys,
I just came back from a nice ride and I am a bit concerned after checking the bike, so I hope some of you (with some more experience and better knowledge) can advise:
I picked up my new 15R in June. Just hitting 500K now (so a bit until first service) and when I came home today, I checked the engine oil level through the indicator glass and realise there is nothing!
I contacted my local Ducati dealer and he did not believe me (well, I did not believe it either in the beginning, but I can't see any oil).
Now, I will of course bring the bike to the dealer, but can any of you advise of similar experience, - if there is something I might be doing wrong here (keeping the bike level and checking) and if I should be concerned about damage to the engine?
I have attached a picture (sorry for the bad quality) in order to try to illustrate.
Thank you
Brgds
