At the event he said this was the case on all the gp and wsbk bikes

GP bikes yeah I get it...... but I believed it would have to be homologated for the WsB rules...??
FIM WSB rules...

WSBK pattern gear box N-1-6 isn’t seamless. Seamless is a different tech, currently on seen on GP bikes.

This ^^^

The difference between 1-N-6 and N-1-6 is simply gear position on the shafts. The gears are still individually selected via traditional selector forks.

Seamless transmissions are entirely different - two gears are simultaneously selected (similar to a dct) with one free-wheeling and one actually engaged by retractable “pawls” on the shaft. This allows for the shifts to be “seamless”.

So have they just moved the neutral position or is it a cassette style gearbox for the 23 R or might it be seamless?

A cassette gearbox would require a different engine case.

Basing on Ducati marketing approach I wouldn’t be surprised if this just a change in shift pattern and one or two other features, maybe treated gears. Slap on a WSBK title on the product and a 10k price tag… Shabang! Now the lad has boasting capabilities.

Not gonna lie though… the thought of having a 1-2 shift without having to go through N is rather intriguing. Heck, most of the time I only do clutchless 3-6, and 2-6 only when it’s well and truly warmed up.

A 1-2 clutchless is an occasion… either feeling groovy with the bike or it’s a launch from a stop.

I think the proposed gear pattern is better. I've had it happen at least once that while braking hard and intending to downshift into 2nd gear, my lazy foot accidentally pushed it into neutral. I'm pretty sure accidentally going into 1st would be better in this scenario. It probably offers tighter, crisper up-shifts from launch too. I like the V4 base model and hope this new tech trickles down soon.

N at the bottom, its extremely simple for the factory change the shift pattern

Cassette gearbox's? Unlikely but who knows there might actually be people that need to chip 1/100th of a second of their laptimes in middle age man luxury bike world and unless there is a radical development in seamless design that reduces the price and maintenance to comparable levels, no it aint happening. Hondas DCT is the closest to the seamless experience but too heavy and complex for a sports bike in its current state of development

If they have N at the bottom that requires a positive action to access via a button press or similar and if it could be retrofitted, I'd be in the queue as well!

I could be wrong but I believe the kawi zx10r has a cassette gearbox

In all honesty… super bikes and even super sport shouldn’t be produced as street bikes… they should have a street legal conversion if necessary in my opinion. Kind of like the current Yamaha R6.

This way manufacturers don’t t have to directly accommodate legalities and “norms”.

They can be sold as track bikes, which is what they are and if street use is desired then that can be an add-on. Mirrors, turn signals etc…

I mean if you’re gonna choose to be a squid you might as well pay for it 😂

Confession… I’ve been guilty of squid like activity 🤭

But seriously… the question manufacturers need to ask themselves these days is why do these bikes even exist aside from instagram posers and then we might actually have bikes that are truly purposeful.

Call Nova in the UK. They do or at least did the gearboxes for DC. They would have the kit necessary for the N-6 conversion and yes their setup does use a small thumb brake manual actuator to disengage the N lockout. This has been around for quite a while.

Seamless gearbox? LOL Most of the Ducati service center “technicians” (man is that a stretch) can’t fix whats out now. Who is going to service that?

^^ I have tried with them previously, this is what they said

"We have previously made Ducati V4R gearboxes / alternate ratios but not the bottom neutral / N-1 selector drum and locking mechanism. Is this not available from the Ducati Corse race parts/ department?

We could take a look at it. We would need crankcases with a gearbox assembly installed, and all the selector parts. This would also require an electronics package, or access to the existing one to be able to change the gear position voltages/ values in the ECU. It may also need a new sensor depending on the swept range of the current sensor.

We have done this for the current generation CBR1000 RR and current generation R1. We have also done it for the 7 speed gearboxes for sidecars for the R6 and CBR600RR. There are also others (Superbike and other classes) in concept and prototype phases."

Covers one thing I had not considered and that is the electronics...

Hoping Ducati offer this, with a new GPS for it.
Not going to hold my breath though.

Expect it for when they renew the V4

Maybe 2 or 3 years.

Doesn’t seem that complicated if you do it from scratch, but doing it on the current set up, is more for the full on racer with a huge budget (BSB WSBK) not for us TRACKDAY WARRIORS.
