New Racing Gearbox announced for the 2023 V4R

I know this may make me look foolish, but I can't see the Ducati race sequence drum being big money (or, more money than the stock drum). It's, presumably, the same as the stock unit, just reordered? Or, at least the gears and selector forks are the same, and the drum would be different?
Plus, that pesky redesigned gear position sensor...

The drum, sensor and flash will be cheap as chips, the stock drum for example is only a couple of hundred euro. The cost will be labour for those who cant spanner, and if there are any ancillary items such as lock out switches (if any) and their associated mechanical or electronic components if they cant be retrofitted easily. My thoughts are that for most riders i.e non-racers it's not a huge deal but if such a kit did become available and i was a serious track rider/racer I would definitely add it to the list of upgrades.

Because their DP by Akra exhaust is cheap haha! Slip on pipes are $4k?!?!! Full exhaust $8k… Ducatisti def drink the koolaid

SEAMLESS?
there will never be a production seamless gearbox in a motorcycle while we are on here chatting
this thread is about a WSBK style racing gearbox

To be fair you were kind of right on the sequential WSBK style as per that slide from the original post

I think you'll only need the drum though? As the ratios aren't being changed, just the order of 1st and neutral. Plus, as some kind soul mentioned, an ECU flash (to swap the 1st and N GPS readings around).

That Corse gearbox, at €1700, sounds cheap!

Just saw, that's used. Thought it was cheap!

its the internet, everyone is full gas behind the keyboard - not so much on track...

I am just surprised/excited that via Ride Red tour Ducati is announcing a proper racing gearbox available. Seems strange they don't broadcast it with R release but that could speak to the fact they were really rearranging things for the release. Anyway should be more info soon, love this thread and I def hang .... sometimes - not worth taking personally I am a nice guy..

My guess is they did this purely to get around the 45k money limit otherwise why bother going hey look at me a new gear box

WSBK pattern gear box N-1-6 isn’t seamless. Seamless is a different tech, currently only seen on GP bikes.

Seamless transmission have more common with a dct “in how they work per se” remember it pre loads the next gear so there is no gearbox delay or lag in between shifts to upset the bike.
But i wouldn’t be surprised if Ducati put one in a special edition bike in the future because it would be a huge selling point

the entire beginning of this thread is that they are doing it NOW...
also V4 will be updated soon, not 2 or 3 years

I also agree you’re going to see a major update in the powertrain in the next year or so. Ducati is following the Ferrari model which is do updates year over year, then when it’s time for a new model. Don’t start from scratch use what ya got and improve. They started this with the 458 now up the F8 and even though the bones are the same it’s a vastly improved vehicle for better or for worse depending on opinion. But honestly i like this model because it means you won’t feel like you’re getting yesterdays bike at todays prices like a lot of brands fall into
