I've been around for a few weeks, but haven't taken the time to do this so.....

My name is Scott. I have been riding since I was a kid and have had a plethora of sport bikes since I was licensed to ride on the street. I have had my 1299s for about 3 weeks or so and am loving it to death.

Typically I have always seen the Ducati Superbike as a little out of what I could justify spending. I have always bought my bikes used with low miles and then modded them to my liking. Currently I have two other bikes - 03 Honda RC51 and an 07 Yamaha R1. The real change in perspective happened a few months ago when updating my build sheets on those two for insurance valuation. All said and done both of them are between 22-24k each. Spent over a number of years it never dawned on me where I was sitting. Though to myself that this is just crazy - for a couple grand more I can have the new Ducati! So I did :)

I have put the R1 back to stock and am selling off all of the aftermarket goodies. I have diverted a few of those funds towards the 1299 in the way of a full Akra system thus far. Not going too far with this one as it already has many of the suspension and braking system components I typically go after first and the wheels are there as well.

Looking forward to learning from everyone here!

Scott

Mannn....an RC51. Now there's a bike I always wanted and was never able to get back in the day. Fell in love with that sound and got myself into sportbikes because of that bike.

The Panigale is no different in the sound category, in particular with the Akra system. You just know and feel that you're riding a tamed beast! If you dare to rev it over 8k, hold on to your life and put your cheesy grin on under your helmet. That's the feeling I had always assumed the RC51 would give me if I ever owned one. Never got around to it.

Anywho, enjoy the Panigale. You may have a hard time showing your other bikes attention though. That's the problem with the Italian. What a selfish attention whore it is!

Thanks guys.

double0 - the Pani is indeed getting all of my attention. Such a joy to ride. And she gets her own single garage rather than bunking with the other two and my wife's car :)

The RC is indeed a bit of a unique piece. My second one - my SP1 was stolen several years ago. This one is the SP2. Not something you see at every stop light (which is why the R1 will be sold). Clearly I have a soft spot for the twins. The sound, the character - gets me in all the right places. It has been a garage queen all its life so will have no issues continuing. I picked it up bone stock from the original owner a couple years ago with 1800 miles on it. 3006 miles as it sits today at the end of my build project - just a rear rotor short of calling it done. pic attached for your viewing pleasure since you expressed a little interest.

Expressed a little interest? You mean a lot of interest lol

You got a damn steal. Without even knowing what you paid for it, at 1800 original miles couple years ago for an almost 10yr old bike is a steal and my gawddd have you modded it to perfection. I would be riding that for sure, even though it is pretty heavy compared to the Panigale. Damn, wish I could find one with that low mileage. I'd buy one for sure! I even like the later edition (black one) but for sure this livery was my favorite. Well done dude. List of mods would be great. I can see the exhaust, wheels, suspension...

Hey double0 - I finally got around to updating my mod list on the RC. I'll drop it in below. I know I said I wasn't going too far with the Pani, but I may have been overly optimistic that I could just leave it alone. welcome to THE forum, great bunch of brand-hugging, torque addicted squids here ;)

and normal people :D

Sincere Welcome to you my new friend!
And as stated above, the RC51 was a SERIOUS tank but had alot of kick ... power down low and I once had a friend with one who could wheelie that bike on the highway for as long as he had open space ahead of him! MILES & MILES!!!

Congrats on the 1299 and moving into an entire new way of life Scott! You will surely notice a great deal of difference in handling and many other attributes as well, but don't et dismayed at first until you give it a good try for a few months brother!

There are tons of great guys here and lots and lots of resources to gather info from too! Just remember that most of it is all opinion (based on facts too though) and that the final decisions come down to the guy reading this on the other end- YOU!

Enjoy your new bike and the forum too Scotty. Great to have another member-especially from the V-Twin crowd also! :)

Semper Fi,

Gunny Fitz
