Well, I haven't ran the S1000RR yet, I am supposed to race a guy who has a stock bike stretched. We shall see what happens. My buddy that I race has a 200 RWHP Busa and I stay in front til 170, then his 1505cc displacement comes into play. Anyways, he ran the S1000RR and believes I should be able to stay in front til I run out of gear. Only time will tell.

Man, this thread started with some guy venting about his bad luck and actually turned out to be a good conversation...

BTW...sorry that some of you have to go soo far to hit some curves, I live about 1/2 hour from the legendary Palomar Mountain!!! How I have managed to keep my driving record clean is anyone's guess!!!

Are there any twisties in Texas? You may be better off getting a turbo 'busa. It seemed pretty flat and open the last couple times I have been down there. Not exactly Pani country. :)

Dem be down der ober dem there hills ober yonder ya'll:D

This thread took a completely different course than I expected..

Only a bunch of Ducatisti could turn a "Don't waste your money thread" into a "where to find good twisties and BBQ in Texas" :)

On that line - Hear they have a world class set of newly laid twisties down Austin. ;)

I had my second race meeting on the Panigale on the weekend and IMO this bike is awesome .
I was skeptical on this bike after racing a BMW S 1000 last year but am really pleased with the swap . My bike is a rocket out of corners and has no trouble against the power of the BMWs .
After two race meetings one crash and weeks of track work I am yet to have one mechanical failure the bike is only getting better .
Finished third overall and second in the championship with a PB for the weekend .Thanks Ducati :)

Yeah, here we can't do radar and they are wicked tough on speeders. :(

Yes you can. I'll take a $100 radar detector ticket and no points over an $800 speeding ticket and reckless any day of the week.

Also, if you are, or become a licensed Ham radio operator, you can LEGALLY use a radar detector in VA. A radar detector is a radio after all...:)

I always use a radar detector in VA. It's hidden but it is in use and saves me regularly.

I heard tht anyone can fight these as it is a constitutional right to receive radio signals. It is just cost prohibitive, and meanwhile they confiscate your detector.

Hmmm...you guys make very good points. I may have to look into this a bit more.

Ok, I stand(sit) corrected. There is a FCC law in 1934 that says you can, the appellate court overruled it. So no detectors allowed in VA or DC, period.

Yeah, it's a shame since they are so hard on speeders. They use the "abreast" ones to get you for lane splitting or so I hear. Reckless in VA carries 6 points and an automatic 6 month license suspension. I don't know about the fines - who cares, the other penalties are what matters.

Reckless Driving (Felony or Misdemeanor)
Reckless driving - speeding in excess of 80 mph (11 years)
Reckless driving - speeding 20 mph or more above the posted speed limit (11 years)
Reckless driving - racing (11 years)
Reckless driving - passing two vehicles abreast (11 years)
Reckless driving - driving two vehicles abreast (11 years)
Reckless driving - generally (11 years)
Speeding 20 mph or more above the posted speed limit (5 years)

Geeze! I had no idea - why did you buy a Pani? :) I'd be in prison for life if I lived there.

It's bad..

Now that the speed limit has changed to 70 mph on many Virginia state highways, it is much more likely for someone to be charged with reckless driving as the 80 mph cut off is still in place. This means that if you are driving in a 70 mph zone, and you exceed the speed limit by just 10 mph, then you may be charged with reckless driving.

In Virginia, reckless driving is considered a serious criminal offense. As a class 1 misdemeanor, a conviction of this will leave you with a permanent criminal record. The penalties for reckless driving speeding in Virginia include:

Court costs and fines;
Time in jail;
A suspension of your driver's license; and
A significant increase in your insurance rates.

If you are charged with driving at a speed of 90 mph or above, you may receive 2 days in jail for every mph over 90 that you were driving. If you exceed a speed of 100 mph, then you may get as much as 30 days in jail added to the previous total.

Reckless Driving is not merely a traffic infraction. It is a criminal offense - a class 1 misdemeanor - the most serious class of misdemeanor in Virginia with maximum penalties of 1 year in jail, $2,500 fine, and a 6-month suspension of your driver's license.

So if you are driving the speed limit, do you rarely get passed, I mean do they enforce this well?

Maybe some other folks will chime in that are from the DC area. I'd say generally that they selectively enforce it. The flow of traffic when it isn't gridlocked is fast. Doing the speed limit you will get flashed at, honked at and passed by old ladies reading the newspaper while shaving. There are so many people in this area that they can't be everywhere at once. I take a high occupancy vehicle lane/road every day and they do enforce that with checkpoints at most exits so they can hammer people who don't have enough passengers in their car to take that road. I usually fly by the checkpoints and wave to the motorcycle officers. That being said, I have lived in other states in the south and midwest and they were much more lenient there. In one state I lived in I had 2 tickets in 13 stops so that was pretty good. Usually they just wanted to chat about what was under the hood or make sure I wasn't drinking. In VA I am 3 for 3. 3 stops, 3 tickets. I got pulled over in FL once and the officer was cool enough to write me a seatbelt ticket that carried a fine but no points. In VA they don't do stuff like that. In my experience they don't believe in giving people breaks and you almost never hear of a warning being issued.

There is a reason that the dcsportbikes forum has a sticky at the top with lawyer recommendations. :)

DC can be a funny place too. Generally they are pretty busy with real crime and leave us alone, but I used to take a shortcut through a secure facility (don't ask how I found it) that saved me a couple minutes but involved riding in a special lane and over the top of some ramps that they use to check the underside of vehicles for explosives. It worked out great until one day a dude with dark sunglasses, a curly wire behind his ear and an M4 on his shoulder stopped me and said in a rather subdued voice, "don't ever do that again". Luckily, I was carrying my PM40 in a Milt Sparks IWB so I dropped the bike and rolled to one side and drew.. wait, that was probably Jack Bauer. I never took that route again. :)

Damn, that's brutal in VA. That's why I oppose any of the "common sense" laws that they try to push down our throats. It always ends up being what VA & CA have in the end. Meanwhile legitimate crime gets ignored because there is no cash flow to fund the agencies there...

Just throwing this our there, NO company has ever produced a completely perfect vehicle that has never had a single problem ever. Some lucky sucker is going to end up with a lemon, whether it's a Toyota or a Ducati.

+1

Was my first thought exactly. My second was TROLL!!!
