Anyone else experienced a sudden change in exhaust/pipe note while riding? 4-5 times while riding (have about 1300 mi now total) the exhaust note has changed suddenly while throttle has been held steady. Hard to describe the sound but it's as though the exhaust gets suddenly quieter/muffled. Lasts about 5-10 seconds and then changes back to the regular sound.
No loss of power when it does this. Today when it happened (lasted about 10 seconds) I rolled on some throttle and it responded the way I would expect.
Is there something in the exhaust system that could account for it? Any ideas?
I mentioned it to the service techs when I had it in for first service a couple weeks ago and they seemed a bit puzzled (though one speculated that it may have had something to do with traction control). But clean, dry highway under neutral throttle so not sure I'd put much into that.
Anyone care to speculate? Doesn't seem to affect the bike. As I said, no apparent loss of power (which I would expect if TC were a cause). Motor doesn't stumble or surge - the pipe note just changes dramatically for a few seconds and then returns to the normal, wonderful sound.

Have experienced the same and initially thought my hearing had lapsed as at a Rock Concert.

You can generally replicate the conditon by going 40-42 in 2nd gear on flat or slightly down hill grades with a stock exhaust. I noted the same thing while riding the shops loaner. Very fun to get that balance right and the bike is nearly silent relative to is normal note.

wasn't this the US EPA trying to control the noise volume? i get it when I'm putting back to my house after a ride and so forth
