oil change procedure

Hello Everybody,
Does anyone know how to change the oil on the panigale.I live 1000 miles way from the nearest dealer and after the first service i would like to be able to change the oil on my Panigale s.

I watched the tech do it. The exhaust cans make it really difficult, and of course the filter is a cartridge type which you access by the side port. It appears to be a bit tough to get the filter porthole cover off, but nothing super complex about it.

Downside no manual out yet so we don't have torque specs for these items.

It is easy. I've done it twice.

Remove the left lower. Take some aluminum foil and make a v-shaped cover for the silencers to prevent oil from getting on the silencer and drain any oil from the oil filter compartment when the filter cover is removed into your drain pan. Remove the drain plug. Remove the two bolts which hold the cover to the oil filter compartment. Get a small piece of wood to protect the engine cases and use as a fulcroum point with a #2 flat screwdriver. Gently and gradually work the lower edge of the filter cover at alternate ends to wiggle the cover off. On the oil filter side of the cover is a cylindrical bore with two o-rings, so it takes some patience to coax the cover off.

Once the cover is off take the tip of the #2 screwdriver and push the oil pressure relief valve (black disc in the end of the oil filter) in and hook the edge of the filter with the scewdriver and pull the cartridge filter out.

Replace the filter, put the cover back on, screw the drain plug back in, remove the aluminum foil and wipe everything off to make sure there is no oil on the engine or silencer and put the lower back on. Fill with oil. It takes about 3.5 quarts. Using a flashlight you can see enough of the oil level window on the other side of the bike to see how full the bike is. Start the bike, check the level again and fill till you get the level in the window to the top mark.

I will be taking this job off from my dealers plate, as they've never ever worked on a Pani before. After the horror stories, well.....

One quick question - any washers or O-rings need changing?
 
Awesome, This will save quite a bit. What weight oil did you use. I was thinking about using Amsoil MCF10w40. Its what I've used on my other bikes with wet clutches and they shift sooooo much better with amsoil. Also is there anything that I might need to check on my first service??

Not overkill at all. Doing that is like using a new crush washer on the other models. Prevention is always better than cure!
 
Didn't have my head under there far enough to see the drain ! Changed the oil and filter today. Filter cap is a ...... Got it using two " L " shaped screwdrivers to carefully pry both of the cap's tabs at the same time. Used Alum foil to cover everything under the filter cavity. Oil still found a way to get under it , and wound up in the little plastic skid plate. Flushed it all out with the hose when I was done. WARNING : The filter cap has a top and bottom ! Don't try to install it the wrong way , it won't fit , and you might damage an o-ring before you figure out why the cap's not going into place. I didn't damage mine , but I didn't see that it had to go a certain way at first. Theres less clearance between the cap and the case , on the top side of the cap , than there is on the bottom. If you can't see what I'm talking about when you look at it , you might want to mark the cap before you remove it. I used 3 and 1/2 quarts of Mobile 1 10w40 full synthetic. Taking a 4 or 5 hour ride to St. Augastine and back tomorrow. And will finally start getting on the gas a little. Just over 600 miles on the odo. Can't wait to see the service light come on , and the redline marker change ! Yeehaw ! I'll take it in next week to have the computer reset , and let them look everything else over. Later Dudes ! Can't edit this post anymore and wanted to add the torque values. The torque value of the oil filter cover bolts and oil drain plug are 13NM (9.6 ft. lbs).

Was doing an oil change today and couldn't remember or find this info.
 
can someone give the video instruction how to change engine oil for panigale?

You mean fill the filter with oil before installing? No. It's a cartridge type. You can't fill it with oil before installing.
