The book says every second oil change. But thats for a street bike and that would be at 7500 miles for the first one. How often should it be cleaned for a track only bike? I change the oil every 3-4 track days so I don't want to be doing that service every 600 miles!

Thanks,
Matt

Matt, depends what your primary filter looks like, what comes out in the pan and what is stuck to the mag plug. I would use those as the framework for the decision to pull the pan. There is also an internal screen/mesh filter next to the oil pump behind the case. It is serviceable although I have not seen a protocol for it.

Just the normal junk you'd expect from a new motor in a track bike. a few silver shavings but nothing excessive. what do you think? Thanks!

(and I haven't seen the oil screen filter you mention in the service manual other than the oil intake one)

I think if you have the time, go ahead and check the pan filter. They do make a pan gasket if you do not want to use the goo. The filter in the pump pickup is a nylon mesh and is removable. The other filter is called a scavenge pump filter(see pic) also is a pic of the pan gasket

Clarification: and by the "pan filter" you mean check the oil intake mesh filter at the current 1250 miles?
Thanks for the info! Much appreciated

Correct, the oil intake tube filter. (see pic of disassembled unit). I am not sure what the velocity is of the oil running through that intake screen. The filter is nylon. Its not inconceivable that a sharp object could penetrate the screen. Your call on checking it at 1250. Probably not necessary. Depending on your resources, the process is relatively simple or a pain in the .... I have extra screens if you need one.
