oil leak from the clutch pushrod hole (1199 base 2012)

My measurement was .893" from case until I contacted o-ring which does coincide with the clutch push rod "polishing" from actuating back and forth. I can definitely visualize pulling that o-ring with a pick like you mentioned earlier endo, but im not sure re-installing a new one would be much of a breeze. Did you just slide the replacement on the clutch rod and feed the rod and o-ring in together until it found its home?..

Edit: now that i read that back to myself, I dont even think that install method would be feasible as the o-ring would have to be collapsed to some degree to get into the hole in the first place. In fact, it would have to be collapsed considerably because the difference in diameter between the clutch rod and the case bore is only like .008"

Anyway, im sure you or someone else has done this before me so ill stop dreaming up scenarios and wait for someone more experienced than myself to lay it out for me

The clutch rod OD is a true 8mm. I machined a piece of delrin that was a precision fit to the hole. I did exactly what you described. I just pushed the o ring in the hole (yes of course there is deformation but it’s not going to hurt anything) and followed it in with the Delrin. You will feel it seat. I use Parker O ring grease. Never had an issue doing this.

Genius. Ill do just that. And did you just use a parker o-ring that was more-or-less equivlent to the factory size? Im still chasing my tail trying to find a schematic let alone a PN for the OEM bit...

No I got the O-ring from Ducati. Parker is a brand of o-ring grease. I use it on anything that gets an o-ring

Right, they also make o-rings. Anyway, ill call a dealership when they open back up and see if they can figure out what the PN is. Thanks for all your help

Yup, looks and sounds right. I ordered the "seal ring" according to your PN. My small pick set is too wide so Im on the hunt for one small enough to go into the hole. After that, ill turn a tool to fit the replacement o-ring ring as soon as it arrives. Thanks again for the help and follow through, Endo

Speaking specifically to a 2012 1199 (i dont know if the design was changed later or not). You CANNOT pull this seal from the outside. It is captive and does require the cases to be split.

Hello,

first post after lurking a long time. And haven’t used a forum in probably 20 years so if this breaks some kind of necro rule I apologize. I have been having this issue for a while and was reading through this thread. In true dumb guy fashion I went out and started picking out the o ring piecemeal, as mine was in very bad shape. I have probably 70 of it out and then I read the final post in this thread. Should I continue at this point? If not can anyone advise me as someone with no machining knowledge what I should tell a machine shop to turn into my slave cylinder rod for the o ring modification? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
Have a look at post number #29 and maybe PM that member. If I am reading his post correctly he mentions doing a mod on the clutch slave rod with 2 o rings. I have not had the issue on my 2012 1199 so have no real experience trying to fix the problem. I would PM tyguidry as it looks to me like he has jumped thru the hoops and has some experience dealing with the problem.

After modding the push rod i have had no further issues with oil leaking from the clutch slave push rod hole.
to do the mod, we just replicated the twin o-rings from the 996 etc.
if you look inside of the hole you can see there is a smooth area and this is where you need the o rings to sit.

im away with work at the moment, but i will remove and measure the rod and put the details up on this forum, but it may be a month or 2 due to work commitments.

Im a few months late, but if you're still in a tight spot I can generate a CAD drawing of the machining mods I personally made which solved the issue. Let me know.
