Hey everyone. Just cleared 360 (give or take) miles with my Pani S. As told by the dealer, checked the oil at 180 miles and sure enough was a little under a half quart of oil short (400mil's I believe) so I filled it up with some Motul 10W-40 Full Synthetic.

Well, hit the 360 miles mark today and it was below the lowest mark after I got back from my ride and added more oil (200mil's - ish).

Now, is everyone else seeing something similar, is this going to continue, and if you're seeing something similar how much are you all adding???

Thanks

Just got my Panigale "S" just last Wednesday (May 9) from my Dealer - Ducati Manila.
Put around 622kms and had to add just a bit to top-up...as it was below the middle mark. I will check after another 200kms...keep you all posted.

Sounds typical, particularly the amount consumed; however, mine stopped using oil after 240 miles. I've now got over 1,300 miles on the clock and have not had to add a drop since the first service. :)

Check the bike when its cool. It has to be upright, and usually I need a small flashlight to see the sight glass if she's not in full sun.

Those who have bikes that are consuming oil did you use a "hard" run in method? Or per the Ducati procedure? Hard run in methods supposed to prevent oil loss/consumption?

Used 200ml in the first 100 miles. Smoked a bit when starting cold in that period, been fine since. I kept the engine under load (either acceleration or deceleration) for the run in but stayed under 6-7k so as not to void warranty. Felt the motor 'loosen' at around 50 miles.

I kneel on the RHS of the bike, arm over the seat and pull it towards me resting it upright aganist my side, it's not going anywhere then. Have small torch in right hand to check oil level.

Yep I check mine by standing on the right of the bike and just hold the handle bar to get bike level, it's so light! You will know it's level when it goes the lightest in your hand. I use my iPhone 4 as a flash light, simple. BUT you have to have to bike cold in order to check the correct level and off the rear paddock stand and also off the side stand ( but leave it kicked ou!) I've got full Termi's on and I've had to use about 250mls of fully synthetic so far, only done 200miles, but am confident it will stop using the oil after first service...

I don't think it makes any difference if you run in the hard way or advised way.

I'm guessing a cutout in the body panel for the oil site guage will be the first change for 2013 model year. surprised they didn't do that.

I've been thinking about what kind of stand to get for mine. This makes me lean towards one of those front wheel stands you just roll the bike onto. A dealer gave me a demo yesterday on how they work. It's secure, and keeps the bike virtually perfectly flat to the ground. Only drama is then you need a rear stand to lube the chain etc.. can't win really...

The ones you just push it into are nice and easy , and make more room in your garage by having your bike standing straight up. But you will still need at least a wheel spinner ramp. You can get them cheap from Harbor frieght. It's a little ramp about an inch high with a cylinder on ball bearings in the middle of it. You space it out on the floor , so when your front wheel is in place in your front stand , your rear tire is sitting on the cylinder. Then you can just spin your rear tire easily , even though the bike's weight is still sitting on it. Or , you can buy a regular rear stand .

I've got 700 miles on the clock now, and the bike's taken two lots of 300ml.

Mine used about 400mls in the first 150 miles or so, perhaps 200ml from there to 650 miles. First service was today so will see what happens next.

Other than one brief smoking at start up early on in that first 150 miles, there has been no smoking at all (other than a melting panel discovered today due to the exhaust spring touching the panel!)

Used what I had left in an old bottle in my shed in the first 600 miles. Had to top up every ride. Certainly over 600ml.

Not checked since first service - oops!

I have done around 700 miles now and so far the bike has never smoked or used any oil. Mine is a base level 1199, but this should not make any difference. AC
