still ready to pick up my all new 1199 :)

This is stupid, you guys amaze me.
There's not a motorcycle built that doesn't have a recall once in a while...
I could list them for pages and pages from each and every manufacturer - it proves nothing.

If you're worried then you shouldn't buy a Ducati... some people aren't really Ducati material

OK, not looking for perfection, but can't they at least pay special attention and focus in on the ELECTRICAL, STEERING AND FUEL system components:confused:? Just saying...

I do not believe recalls are an indication of overall reliability. As flynbulldog pointed out recalls happen to most all manufacturers Honda, Toyota some of the most reliable manufacturers in the world. These are items identified as a very specific issue found and resolved. This does not indicate the vehicle has persistant issues and reliability is in question.

If you need some peace of mind, don't buy the first year's model and let them work out any issues that might turn up. I have two Ducs with a total of 30K and 9 years (combined) on the clock and only one issue that was fixed at no expense to me.
Don't sweat it :D

Hey, thanks Zaster. Just looking for a little insight from the seasoned Ducatista:eek:. I really feel like the Ducati brand represents the same passion that I have for motorcycles. No doubt that it will be money well spent to own a piece of motorcycle history. Basically, is there anything that is characteristically an issue for Ducati that I should keep an eye on before pushing the bike into the higher percentages of performance (outside of the normal pre-ride checklist)?

I hear you motodoc. I'm a seasoned Ducatisti and I have nothing but praise for the brand, comradery and service. Apologies if you take offense to other Ducatisti defending the brand, to a point of fault, though that's part of being a Ducatisti. Yes, like all manufactures, Ducati is not perfect and has had recalls in the past. I will state that most of the recalls that I've have noted over the years, were due to poor quality control with suppliers and not Ducati. However, unlike personal experiences with the likes of some other large manufactures, Ducati are more likely to define and order a recall.

I've been fairly lucky over the years in that I've few issues with my Ducatis. My latest model - 09 1198s, I've had one recall, for an Ohlins fork leg - which my dealer picked up, provided a 1198 loaner and delivered again free of charge. Now that's what I call service.

One thing to consider, as a small manufacturer, a higher percentage of their high end superbikes are raced or tracked on a regular basis. With this in mind, it is more likely that faults will be identified and recalled due to hard use. Besides 3K of road miles, my 09 1198s has run over 4k of hard track miles and one high speed lowside without skipping a beat.

DrSapp, you sir, are the true essence of a Ducatisti!!!:)No Apologies needed. A true brand loyalist never has to rely on insults, intimidation, and vulgarities. These are the actions of POSERS, not deserving the honor of being associated with the Royal seal "DUCATI"!
BUT Doc S, this is where mankind is today, fully De-Evolved and only focused on Death, Destruction, and Devastation.
Me on the other hand, I will always embrace and encourage others to experience the true beauty and joy of being on a bike, no matter what brand they choose!!! I also remain on the pursuit for true motorcycle nirvana, and I feel that the Panigale will provide the access to this!!!

Hey DocS, this is the main reason that I sold the S1000RR. The Bwmer motorrad co always held you responsible for any gremlins wreaking havoc in the bike (until after the 5th letter...). There is no camaraderie, unless your bike has 2 opposed cylinders lying on their sides, and your in the 100,000 mile club :(. The same applies to the service, if your cylinders don't protrude sideways, the service department wants nothing to do with your bike (there is no aftermarket support, so unless it is bolt-on and installed by the owner, your bike will be in the shop for weeks:eek:).
No problem with the BMW road service responding promptly however...:(

WHO CARES !! NOW YOU CHANGE YOUR TONE??!!

PLEASE, DUCATI OR DUCATISTI (not ducatista!!) DONT NEED SOME OF YA AND IF YOU TOO SENSITIVE THEN BITE YA TONGUE BITCH !!

DONT CARE WHAT YOU'VE HAD AND WHAT YOU'VE SOLD, WE RIDE EM TIL THE DIE OR WE KILL EM...TAKE EM TO THE MORGUE!!!

DONT TALK .... BOUT SOMETHING YET YOU GOT ONE ONE LAYAWAY HAHAHAHA

USE YOUR COMMON SENSE, EVERYDAY PRODUCT THATS MANUFACTURE BY HUMAN OR ROBOT (and im a process engineer !!) HAS DEFECT AND RECALLS

A RECAL IS BETTER THAN YOU LOSING YOUR LIFE!!

A RECALL IS THE MANUFACTURE TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR PRODUCT!!

JUST ANNOY ME WHEN SOME OF YOU CONTRADICT YA SELVES, JUST FOR ATTENTION

I ALREADY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS A NEW PLATFORM (1199) AND THAT I EXPECT A FEW CLITCHES. AND IF SO, ILL REPLACE THE BIKE WITH A NEW ONE IN A YR OR TWO..IF IT WORKS OUT, THEN ILL KEEP IT FOREVER!!....AND I'VE NEVER CONSIDERED THAT!

EITHER WAY, RIDE ....... !!!

Yes motodoc, I've heard this sentiment echoed form many S1000RR owners. It's a shame that such a fine machine is not embraced by the mass BMW loyalist, however, though I don't agree with it, I do understand their feeling. Considering it form their point of view would equate to Ducati producing an opposed twin for the multi or even an I4 superkike to replace the panigale! Even a Ducatisti such as myself would have a hard time embracing offerings such as this.

Thanks for the accolade! I consider it a great honor to be referred to as "a true essence of a Ducatisti".
