AHA! I knew there would be someone out there to break it down like a pro! Thank you Doctor! Now, I am about to break my own request that I listed at the beginning of this post. I am going to paste exactly what our manual states. Then I am going to log off and completely slap myself about the head for answering my own questions. I went out and looked at my bike and it seems I had it the correct way for passenger riding all along!!! ughhhhhh

Gunny your bike has always been in P mode. when i was riding in F mode you told me am i nuts to ride in that on those nyc streets. I changed mine to P mode during first service.

Since i have known you your bike has been in P (progressive 1 up riding) mode

True Mark. Since you and I first met it has been on P and before I gave you that advice I did have it on F when I first got it, and once switched over it was TOTALLY night and day for the better, no idea how anyone can stand it on F but its meant for tracking and has its benefits obviously. Another personal preference deal ya know? :D

it is night and day here in nyc. P all the way. F almost threw me out of the seat when i hit a bump

Rode it quite a while in F with a passenger, and it was just fine. In the F setting, the suspension is much firmer, and a passenger actually makes it track over bumps better. I have since softened the rear spring 2 steps (Tricolore w/ Ohlins) and at my 190 pounds, it rides significantly better in the F setting. Obviously no passenger anymore as I have removed the passenger pegs. Looks better without them anyway!!

Does the bike feel unsettled in P mode through the fast tight stuff? I'm still in F mode and it's way too bumpy where I ride...I'm not sure how much longer my back will hold up in F mode.

Prefer linear rate suspension (i.e. "F"). Suspension much more predictable with setups/adjustments.

I tend to prefer a firmer suspension.

As I stated above, I have softened my rear spring 2 steps (Ohlins). It has made a huge difference. Considering the springs cost only $90, it is a cheap experiment, and installation is a quick and easy procedure - see, there is a good point to that shock being hung off the side!! I weigh 190 w/o gear, so if any of you are lighter, I would imagine you would benefit as well. I was in central Italy this summer (both coasts), and the cities in and around Bologna are stunningly smooth for the most part. No wonder they over-spring the bike - they never have to contend with rough roads like many of us in the U.S. do (especially rural areas of California). Experiment with the compression damping as well as otherwise it will still rattle your fillings. I run mine on the bare minimum for the shock (#31). I use the bike for canyons at a pretty good clip, but no track work. Eventually I will revalve the Ohlins shock to soften up the compression damping further.

Do I have a fellow Ted Cruz/Rand Paul fan here??? :D:D:D

Wow. Cant believe how long ago it was I posted this thread!
There is soooo much info out there on this and I do believe our great mods made it into a sticky FAQ section?
