Hi all,

2012 1199s with 4K on clock.

Started my bike the other day and got the red ‘ENGINE’ light on my dash, never went for a run out at that point. Didn’t have the balls to take the bike out risking breaking down but it did sound like it occasionally ran rough and when blipped sometimes it almost stalled or fully stalled.

I had the cables to read faults from my previous 899 but Melcodiag was not working so looked like the 1199 needed a different cable, indeed it did
I worked out after purchasing a new one.

So now with the correct cable in hand using Melcodiag I can see top of the fault list I have P0106 error - MAP vertical circuit malfunction Status 61 - attached photo.

Have googled plenty since and seems like a common enough fault and on the vertical cyclinder the MAP sensor is located on the left side of the engine and easy enough to change out. Is both these correct in you guys experience?

Maybe a coincidence too but I give the bike a good wash with the hose before puting it away on my previous ride (hose was definitely hitting that leftvertical cyclinder) and I wonder have I destroyed the sensor myself as opposed to it failing like most others report?

Either way do you guys reckon I’d be safe enough to purchase a replacement sensor and swap out or should I try any other fault finding before buying the new sensor? Thinking some of you guys would have had this issue before me so appreciate the advice in advance.

Many thanks in advance guys

Why do people use a hose to clean a bike? It’s not smart given all the electronics and sensors. I use wet towels and simple green diluted.

The vertical sensor is the sensor closest to the front of the bike (counter intuitive). I doubt hosing caused it. While the area isn't water tight, I don't think you could get a direct spray on the connector.

You don't need to remove the tank I'd you use a small Allen key bit and a 1/4" spanner.

If you wanted to test first, you could swap the sensors and see if the problem follows it. You only need to remove the left hand upper fairing and then 2 small bolts for the sensors.

Thanks disco, I’ll go ahead and swap to check if the fault follows.
Ordered up one also.

For those other hose lovers I’ll keep that in mind next time

Good evening, just wondering if you had resolved this? I have the same bike/fault.
Many thanks

I replaced my map sensor and the beast returned . Seems it could be the exhaust pop that damages them!

Seems unlikely that exhaust 'pop' would cause such a tremendous intake spike that it could damage a MAP sensor. In order to do that the pressure would have to spike the intake tract as well, past all 4 valves. After replacement, perhaps you should fix the off-throttle mixture to eliminate the exhaust popping and see if the problem recurs. That popping doesn't do anything good for the engine (or your ears) anyway.
