panigale 1299s as first bike

if you are doing just street riding, it doesnt really matter what you get, in fact, i would even recommend the 1299 over any 600s, smaller bike:

a. with electronic, the 1299 will be much safer for newer rider, and you can put it in rain mode if needed, you cant do this with an R6 or a Cbr600

b. 1299 has more appeal for the street, and you will appreciate the attentions more

c. any idiots would could kill himself on a 50cc scooter, as long as you dont do anything stupid and respect the power, you are good

If you are planning of learning to ride fast on the track, the dont get it:

a. expensive for track on part/maintenance, hard of tires

b. harder to learn to ride fast on a fast bike (much harder for me, personally)

c. you will be that guy who is the slowest on the track with one of the fanciest bike, this created ALOT of pressure on yourself

d. blink factor is low on the track, they only care how fast you are, not how nice your bike is

Hope this helps

Agreed for all day to day propositions an 899 or 600 will suffice more than adequately, but the vast majority of bike riders ride for fun. Exceptions notwithstanding fun is where its at, if and when I roll up for a track day on my 899 I will be there wondering what it would be like to be on a 1199/1299 and thinking are they having more fun than me.
I ride a pretty quick dirt bike and have no issue if a gun rider blows past me on a perceived slower bike cos he is better, I enjoy the rush that riding just on my limit brings. Being a more mature rider these days I enjoy the pose value riding a nice well looked after bike brings.

Like mx these days there are only a handful of guys that can exploit the power of the big bores, all us would be nearly if not faster on a smaller capacity bike. As mentioned above, where's the fun at?

really depends on the track and your skill level, the 1199 can be a real handful on tighter tracks where's the 899 is an easier bike to exploit and the majority of people would be faster on it and remember it's not exactly a small bike it's still 900cc

Your comparison to dirt biking is correct and like you said most people are quicker on smaller bikes for me riding a 500 on the dirt is a pain whereas the 250 I love.

The 1199 was my first motorbike.

On the 1199 I am trying not to kill myself,
on my friends 600cc I have to try to kill myself.

750,000kms driving no accidents
600hp daily driver
1000s of racing simulator hours.
3 years of riding a bicycle in traffic
5 Years of operating heavy machinery in an extreme environment.

Would I recommend it for a first bike? Only if you have 6 months left to live. Otherwise follow the good advice of our seasoned forum members.

Which one is more fun?

They both are attractive, just in different ways.

If it was based on fun, well if smiling and screaming in your helmet are a sign of fun, then the 1199 is the winner by a mile! :D

Sold, you have convinced me. I am thinking if your not in sales you should be. Lol

If I was selling them to first timers they would have to be single and have a good life insurance policy, with me as the beneficiary, otherwise I would recommend they get a Scrambler.

I started with a CBR1000rr at 24 years old, 3 months later bought an 1199 and I didn't die. Think you'll be fine, as long as you have some serious respect for the bike.

Just my $.02 is that the reason I bought the 1199 over the 899 was not hp related, but style related. The single-sided swingarm link, color display, and adjustable swingarm were the factors that got me. The difference between 140hp on the 899 and 195hp on the 1199 is minimal on the road and only on long straights on a track, so for me mostly riding/commuting to work and weekend twisty rides, I could have gone either way, but the style of the 1199 is just sexier to me. So imho go with the 1199, or 1299. You can probably find 1199 bikes on huge sales. I've seen 1199 Ss on $5000 of msrp sales. Plus demos can be found cheap too. Go for the 1199 man!!!!!!!!!!

Unless you're COMPLETELY uncoordinated and can't ride for s**t, you'll be fine and get used to the power. If you are very bad on a bike, you can kill yourself just as easy on a Triumph Daytona 675 as you can on an 1199. If you haven't already, go to a safety course for a few days and it helps. I can tell on the road who has been in a course and who has been self taught. Many BAD habits out there. Good luck!

Is it????

Is it????

Haha it was man. One of the many factors. Just another reason not to lose money on an 899 I would trade in in a year cuz deep down I love the 1199. ALL differences between the 2 are what I looked at. Same reason I didn't get an S since I didn't think it was worth the $5k premium. You love busting my balls Steve lol.
