Panigale Crash Damage - Same as any other bike?

I've been using Tankslapper kits

1199 Panignale, The Tankslapper

on bikes for a couple years. They work well tho some have had issues with the cutting precision. I'm using the tank protection kit I had mine made with the tankslapper film (they use both tankslapper and 3m film).

THe tankslapper film is reusable and applies similarly to 3m film. THe 3m film is a bit more permanent and is NOT reusable.

They have different kits for different bikes.

If you just want to cut your own pieces you can buy the 3m film in bulk:

XPEL Technologies Corp.: Paint & Headlamp Protection Material By The Foot

It takes a bit of practice but it can be done.

Hey, can you tell us more about the paint protection film? Is it bike specific? Where do we get it?

Lowsided mine at about 30mph in a lefthand hairpin; broken shifter, scraped lever, bar end and footpeg. Small scratch on the middle fairing that was easily removed with some light buffing.

Crashes pretty well IMO

I did the same. Very minor damages. My DP rear set folded and DP Clutch cover took the scratch, lever and Rizoma front slider.

Thanks gentlemen for the replies on paint protection film.

First, any pics of the film applied? And of the after-crash version? Did you just remove the old and replace it with new film?

Second, zvez, it looks like the Tankslapper kit just covers parts that typically slide? Is that true?
And does it discolor over time?
Is it obvious to the untrained eye? Like a bunch of lines on the fairing?

I have friends who have worked at many different dealerships, and they all say Italian bikes always get written off/totalled very easily because not only are the parts expensive, they almost always seem to be more labour intensive to replace said parts. All I can say is I'd never want to do it out of pocket, unless you have deep, really deep pockets.

1199 Panigale 3M Total Protection Kit, The Tankslapper

They have total protection kit in both 3m and tankslapper film (link above).

Keep in mind the purpose of the film is to protect from light scratching or road debris kicked up. No way will it protect the bike during a slide or even from tipping over.

You can see the seams but on a red bike it's hard to see. I've never experienced yellowing that I notice.

I used these and they are great!

Tankslapper vs 3M/Tankslapper combo

Much appreciated. Sounds like I need to get it before the Duc hits the road.

Which one do most of you guys use or recommend? The Tankslapper only OR the 3M/Tankslapper combo? Why?

that's a tough call. I only used the tank protection kit top and sides and got it in the tankslapper film, but I think alot of the body protection material needs to be in 3m as the tankslapper won't adhere as well.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of all over film coverage, Areas I would probably cover with 3M film would be the lower fairing belly area. Perhaps also the nose fairing. And the tank, the top tank protection is a must have if you plan to use a tank bag.

Also, the good thing about either film, while wet you can move em around all over the place until your happy with the location just keep everything wet.

Good luck with it.
