I have been using a battery tender on my 2007 S4RS, 2008 1098S and 2013 1199R which all still sport the original batteries. ;)

Mine came from the dealer with the batt quick connect too. I've been using a Tecmate charger on both my bikes with that connector for 8 months and have never had a problem.

Is there a good source for the Ducati tender online? I have never needed a tender before (original battery in my SF for 4 years and 24k miles and never on a tender), but I am not going to be riding this bike as much since apparently it will be getting wrenched on half the time so I figure I should pick one up. :)

Thanks!

May I recommend the charger I posted already? It's much cheaper and has all the features you need. I got mine at Wal Mart lol.

Fully Automatic Microprocessor Controlled Unique automatic battery charger maintains both 6 and 12 volt batteries keeping them at full charge using float-mode monitoring. Perfect for charging small batteries. Great for maintaining small and large batteries kept in storage – motorcycles, classic cars, RVs, boats • 1 amp charger and maintainer • LEDs indicate: Charging, Charged and Power • Automatically switches from Full Charge to Float-Mode Monitoring • 20 Ft. Quick-Disconnect Harness – Snap either connector into place in seconds – Use the 50 amp clamps, 12 volt accessory plug or permanently attach the ring connectors…great for hard-to-reach motorcycle batteries • Reverse-hookup protection • Auto Voltage Detection – the charger automatically determines whether the connected battery is a 6 Volt battery or a 12 Volt battery

You don't, but you need to make sure it has the right amperage though. I have a brand new Ducati charger I got with my multi though if you're interested.

Yes, sort of; you have chargers, speed chargers, and maintainers. I have one of each for different purposes.

I have a standard car charger that I use when one is dead and I want to pull it and charge it overnight. I need the tender/maintainer doodad. Bronch - I'll buy yours if you don't drag me over the coals with it.

just get a standard battery tender by deltran, been using em on all my ducs for years. No over charging chance and keeps battery up to full charge. My 1199 came with a battery tender pigtail attached to the battery to make it easy to use. I thought they all did.

Link? :)

Right, mine does the first and last. Also apparently desulfates! He asked about chargers and there are some with higher amps than recommended by Ducati.

Just to throw another wrench in the works, if you use a Lithium battery you're supposed to use a charger that doesn't desulfate, as somehow this function fouls up those types of batteries.

Straight from the good folks at Shorai.

Scott, they did say deltrans work, tho I think I'd probably opt for the shorai charger just to be safe. That said, I'm nearly two years with a shorai on my streetfighter and have never had an issue with starting or needing a tender. It's the first duc I've had in years I don't keep on a tender anymore.
Love me some shorai!

Scott, you remember Jim Calandro of US Desmo? We spent a big part of last week riding the twisties in West Virginia, 1800 miles worth!

I still sell Jim many of his maintenance parts....especially belts. Jim and I go way back. Glad you got to get out and do a few miles together, and WV definitely has some premium asphalt!

If you're interested in some Colorado riding Ducati in the Rockies is coming up in August!

Anybody heard of rectifier? I had the same problem last weekend on my 2-monthd old pani. I don't think it's the battery. I tried to start for 10 minutes and it sounded like the battery drained out. Finally, it started like nothing happened. Talked to a friend and he had that same problem and had to replace the rectifier.

Possibly, Italians still don't understand electricity.

Its part of the charging circuit and changes AC to DC enabling your battery to charge...
