From what I understand from other posts, the heat from the engine melted the rectifier's circuit causing the failure. Some suggest to reposition that unit.

Where have you read this previously???? First I have heard of that ...

I understand it's a different bike but I think rectifier functions the same. I'm just speculating.

Yes..of course rectifier has the same function...But the location would be the issue here not its function.. and on the 1199 its a non issue... I think your speculation is off the mark....:p

failed regulator/rectifiers have been an issue with ducs for years. My 97 748 fried a regulator, after talking to a parts supplier he suggested to get the upgraded version which was a different regulator (the originals were electrex and prone to fail). along with the new regulator it came with an alum mount which moved it further away from the pipes to get away from the heat, the alum also was said to serve as a heat sink.

This is why older ducs are best kept on battery tenders.

Any rate that's what I know about it.

The earlier single phase regulator/rectifiers worked by shunting excess power to ground to waste it as heat. This is wasteful and inefficient....hence the Italians' need to use the technology.

Since Ducati switched to three-phase charging systems in the late '90s and they use a regulator/rectifier that varies field voltage on the stator to govern output of the charging system. No wasted heat and much better reliability.

I had a regulator rectifier issue on my 2010 Daytona 675SE and it was located under the front right side cockpit cover. Died on the freeway. Luckily I was in dead stop bumper to bumper traffic merging from one fwy to another and was able to pull over to the right. Had no clue what it could have been until the dealer inspected the problem after towing it back to them. Couple of months later, Triumph recall on almost all 675's for this known issue which can be "dangerous". I had already upgraded to an aftermarket unit as well as having to buy a brand new battery so I went with the Ballistic 8 Cell Lithium battery. Recall said if I had the work done before the recall had went out that they would reimburse me for the unit as well as labor BUT since I did the work myself as well as having went with an aftermarket unit and there's no papertrail/claim to go off of, they told me to go fly a kite in a thunderstorm. Few months later, the bike was sold so I just said oh well.

Ok here it is guys! Melted ignition relay. Complete warranty issue. I am happy about that and very disappointed that a 25k bike had such a stupid problem at 800km. Dealer told me it had nothing to do with anything aftermarket that I did. Just a bad relay. Explains why the bike did nothing when the key was turned. It's the first time a Ducati PANIGALE had had this issue according to the ducati rep and Ducati Canada. No records of this problem with Ducati. Yay I love being the first! Fml I hope this is not for shadowing towards future problems. HEAT? WHAT HEAT? Oh wait the heat that melted an ignition relay on a panigale. THAT HEAT. Oh yeah and for the record frosty kiss my ... you ....... goof hater! Not even a "PRO" like you could have prevented or troubleshooted that with your fancy wrenches and dirty fingers :) thanks anyone who helped with advice and encouragement. The rest of you haters can hit the wall. I'm out! :)

Good to hear, don't let any BS discourage you from posting here.

Dude I work in IT, I have soft hands and no fancy wrenches.

Should have got the correct colour, those don't have ignition relay problems. :D

LOL Frosty. You've got such an obsession with the "right color" comment.

I seriously don't get why people get their panties in a bunch over this dudes comments. Personal attack or sarcastic comment, who cares. It's the interwebs. It's funny seeing all these cyber-thugs who make useless threats at someone they'll probably never meet in person all because of some funny comment that is being made at them or about them, even if it doesn't address the topic of discussion. People just need to lighten up some and relax. I enjoy my "primered" bike and am not influenced in any way by someones opinion of my choice of color. That's the meaning of options/variety/differences/choices. Who the hell wants to be just like every other person that owns one of our bikes? Personalizing your bike the way you see fit is what makes you stand out from the rest. I like different. Primer with a little twist of color!

Keep up the humor FF! I always have my popcorn and drink in hand.

Does anyone realize what a snoozer this place would be without the BS??
"what tires should I buy"
"what oil should I burn, oops, I mean use"
"what wax works best on soft paint"

:D

Exactly, it's light jabbing, I don't need to call people names to remind them they bought the wrong bike colour. :D

My 1198 was red. Hated the color and decided to be unique and buy the white. What does the color matter anyway? As for being in IT well that explains everything. :)

In case you haven't figured it out yet, making fun of the white Pani is just a joke.

Is this forum about a Ducati?
Caught in a flame war
No escape from your ISP
Chuck your keyboard
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need Panigale
Because I'm easy come, easy go
A little high(side), little low(side)
Anyway 5-0 goes, doesn't really matter to me, to me.
