Panigale ownership; what has your experience been like?

I love my Panigale. Although I've done almost 11,000km it feels like I've only just started to get to know her. I've always owned Italian bikes so I was prepared for the worst but no issues outside of the warranty recalls.

If you live somewhere with great roads and/or have access to a track then I can't imagine anyone not loving this bike IF they value the sould and passion if Italian machinery and twins in particular.

Taking to the track for the first time was a revalation, it's like discovering a new bike. I'm doing my second track day in 3 weeks time and looking forward to seeing what the new upmap does for performance.

My Pani was my 50th Bday gift from my wife

I couldnt agree with you more, i have 4 bikes currently and have owned dozens over the nearly 30 years of riding, I bought the 1199 to carve up the canyons with plans to use my other rides for commuting and shorter trips

that didnt happen, im selling two of my other bikes, probably replace with a Diavel so i have something for my 10year old daughter to ride with me, but the 1199 is everything the hype made it out to be in my opinion.

the upmap helped a lot, the heat shield/fix will help or I will try something else.

but this is the one bike i wouldnt trade for anything else

I''ll turn the big five-O this fall, have owned countless bikes, sleds, cars and trucks.
Everytime I got into something new I'd be happy for a few weeks and then have my eye on the next thing I was going to get.
Not so with the Pani....have been grinning since day one and after 9 months the only thing I can say is that if I get the bike stolen or wrecked, I'll get the exact same thing.

Someone once wrote on this forum that owning a Duc is like dating a stripper; lots and lots of fun but there might be issues....;)

Since most everyone has nailed the answer, I'll take the easy way out, with one of the oldest cliches going......

"If It has to be explained, then you wouldn't understand" :)

1900 miles of pretty much trouble free riding so far! Very happy with my purchase!

You know what I'm going to say, so I'll shut the hell up after I say:

I should have a remedy that should greatly reduce the heat, so I think that shouldn't keep you away.

You'll be happy with your 675 (I loved mine), but you'll always wished you got the 1199. So much so that you'll end up buying one after, oh, a year or so. The 675 purchase/sale and then purchase of an 1199 will be far more expensive than just buying an 1199!!!! :)

Funny but true! This is where I am finding myself now! :)

The 1199 is for me anyway, the ultimate Ducati thus far. My ownership is now 7,000kms and I still can't wait to take it for a ride. At the track it is simply stunning.
I sold two other bikes after getting the Panigale, as I knew I would never ride them again, one was a BMW S1000RR.

Sorry for those guys with issues, but mine is perfect.

As for the Triumph, well if I was doing some club racing, then maybe, but the 1199 is in a different league.

only one weekend of ownership and all I want to do is keep riding her...love the sound and the way it handles.... I keep peeking in the garage late at night perving at her

Im talking about my bike

This is not a good weekend to ask me. I have a 2013 base, so far ive had 3 random stalls, 2 times where bike wouldn't start for about 10 minutes of cranking, ive had a coolant leak that cant be figured out, and the seat cowl just decided to fly off a month after i brought the bike home, mind you i NEVER had opened or even touched the cowl before that. On top of that, I just found out that the dealership i purchased it from in Jacksonville, (20 minutes from my house) will no longer be a Ducati Dealership since they wont comply with Ducati's strict dealer requirements hence they have already packed up their ducati tools so the mechanic cant even work on my bike for my first service. SO.... Ill be driving my bike over an hour away now to Daytona to get my first service, coolant leak, heat guard, and starting issue looked over. Its NOT been a good weekend for me other than i got about 150 miles on the bike this weekend.

Im ok with the thought that this is an "exotic" bike and that there will be quirks, but for 20k I expect just a little more reliability for a motorcycle. My Pani is my 14th bike that i've ever owned in my life and this has given me more trouble and I trust it less than ANY other motorcycle i've ever owned, yet like a person in an abusive relationship, I still love my Abusive Ducati and I wouldn't give it up for anything else.

It sounds like the two of you need therapy. Perhaps look into the therapists at California Superbike School or the Yamaha STAR folks, et al to get you both back on track with each other!

Thanks very much for all of your thoughtful replies ;). I was able to take a demo S out for another test ride today, longer this time, but had to turn around due to very dirty conditions (snow on the canyon walls, pumice on the ground...sure was pretty up there though!). In short, the Panigale is a brilliant motorcycle (has some drawbacks, which bike doesn't) but one that I'm not going to pursue any further at this time (doesn't mean that I won't reconsider at a later date :D).

Have fun, ride safe, and be well,

The dealer is doing everything that they can to get the repairs done in a timely manner. There have been a few difficult issues that took some time to work out and they have definitely stepped up and delivered customer service. The DNA people are a joke. A COMPLETE JOKE in fact. I hope none of you deal with the most disrespectful, self serving person running that department.
7days after purchase starter failure is how my purchase started out. Then fuel pump, then oil leak, then exhaust plug, then verticle valve cover, then selector shaft seal, then horizontal valve cover, top windshield tabs, etc....

Damn, that sux... that would be the worst to pay $20 k and have issues like this. Lemon law should come into effect on this...

Sorry to hear that.

Sorry to hear that.....and yes I whole heartedly agree with you about DNA

I've owned many bikes in my life. The Panigale is raw in comparison to Japanese bikes (less refined). This rawness makes the bike extremely fun and exciting. Its angry, and sounds angry when rolling the throttle. I LOVE IT... its the only bike I've ever owned which I feel a genuine attachment to.

The only draw back is the crowd of enthusiast it draws. When I park the Panigale and return there are almost always people huddled around it. They always want to talk, but sometimes I just wanna go!

best sounding hardass sportsbike on the planet. super fast, a lot of character.

charcoal canister removed, exhaust wrapped, race seat on, suspension dialed in, 14T sprocket, upmap installed.

perfectest bike.
now it just has to stop losing screws.

Can't get the bike out of my head.....nor the most recent test-ride.

Decisions, decisions....

Make sure you find an experienced dealer. Not all Ducati dealers are the same.

I learned the hard way (incomplete servicing, cracked fairings, loose bolts, horn falling off, loose front wheel, forgetting to install up-map with slip-ons, scratched paint, forgetting they even had my bike for service, not ordering correct parts.) All in 5 months of owning my pani. /facepalm

More hassle than any other bike I owned:

2 Hondas
1 BMW
1 KTM

But nothing major in 8900 miles:

Fork Seal
Valve Cover Seal
DES Fork Boots
