Panigale R International Launch

Did you go to the launch as part of your job or how did you get invited to go?

Short answer is that Ducati called because they're one awesome bunch of guys. Ride Report link that led to that realization is in my sig below.

Great pics AH
I wish I had some like that. Congrats on spending all that time with the Ducati team.
Nice to hear they are a bunch of good guys.

They must be they have built a great product/motorcycle.

Ducati invited him to avoid litigation when his Panigale burned both of his legs completely off above the knee. They fitted him with some DP prosthetic legs (matte finish) and invited him to the event so his lawyers wouldn't bankrupt Ducati/Audi.

Hilarious!!!!

No. Not imperceptible. Extremely perceptible! Make no mistake, the R motor revs with a ferocity and speed that required a major change in me timing shifts. Even though it revs 500 RPM higher, I was bouncing off the rev limiter thinking I was only at 9k rpm. I'd look down and the tach was buried. Shift again and almost instantaneously I'd be bouncing off the rev limiter again. I hate to say the S motor feels tractor-like, because it's definitely not at all tractor like. But the R motor revs so freely and lightly that, as unreal as it sounds, the S motor does feel sluggish in comparison. The lightened flywheel and Ti Conrods make a significant difference.

Can't wait to get my hands on one!!!

Where can we get our hands on the power and torque curves for the Panigale R?

I dont understand, if it revs quicker it must produce a different power and torque curve but they say it produces 195hp so I am a bit confused on how it differs that much from an S.

Thanks a ton! I'm sure you'll have blast reliving your experience as you do your write up. All up until that one part where you will struggle with the question that half of the people reading your review will want, look, or hell try to read between the lines to get. Can you justify the trade up?

I installed a lightened flywheel/clutch on my 911, and I noticed a huge difference there, and that engine is almost 3 times the size. So I''m not surprised at all.

I'm sure it did! This just feels like the calm before the storm. Remember the when it was just the base v abs and all the discussion around the LEDs/Suspension/ABS worth it or people asking if this can be modified into "lesser" models.

Yeah, you know someone will do it. Back in the day we thought the LED mod was cost porhibitive. The only difference, this is a mod that 99% of the riders (100% of our members lol) cannot do alone! Not to mention, defintely voids the warranty!

True. Personally, I'm excited being in the forefront of a such a new platform so I can't wait to see what's down the pipeline from factory and the aftermarket community. It feels like every week something never before seen pops up (i.e. oilquarium flux capacitor)

Sidenote: Someone should put Gunny's connections to the test and see if he can score an R.

OMG, don't get him started lol - I ordered my RG tidy a year ago, before I recived my 6 months to deliver bike. It was about the only tidy available at the time. Same thing for the RG radiator guard. Multiple choices now, plus a million other mods. Back in the day, the most I did to my Ninjas was a kerker header. Stainless steel brakelines once. So this is amazing to watch.

Good Day Guys,

New to the Forum.
Waiting patiently for the R's to "R-ive" in the states, get it "R-ive" pretty funny? No? It's ok :D

A couple of quick question for you all.

1) I noticed there are add-on's to the front cowl, two appendages attached to the left and right sides. What are they and are we to expect them on our bikes?

2) The magnesium engine case overs. I have seen pic of the R's received by customers in the Netherlands with the Mg covers and a customer in Hong Kong with just black plastic case covers. Also the bikes they used for the press release had black case overs. Anyone have any insight in to this concern?

3) The factory seat that comes on the R standard. How did it feel? What was the material? Alcantara? Neoprene? I have an 1198 SP and the factory seat I replaced with a DP seat due to the factory seat being so unstable/slippery, I would be sliding all over the place.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my post.

I am ablsolutely going crazy waiting on the phone call from my dealer.

All the best,

TWR

Cheers for that.

The difference is quite visible. I guess that is a comparison between a base/S panigale with standard exhausts with an R with a race exhaust?

Any ideas how it would compare when a similar race exhaust is put on the S? How much of that improvement shown is contributed by the new engine parts?

It looks like the graph is comparing a Base/S with a 40T rear sprocket to a R with Full exhaust, 41T rear, and +500rpm. Thats how they get more torque, plus the same top speed. After all, a 10-18% increase is quite a large increase for an exhaust, which is the only real horsepower improving mod.

Im guessing you would have very similar figures with a Base/S with the 41T sprocket, and a full exhaust, You just wouldn't have the extra MPH on the top end since you're lacking 500 RPM's.

+1 Exactly!

for antihero

along with this even ducati north america or even ducati in general should offer you an employee rate on the r along with your trade in... that would be special!!!! and wth do they do to the r models after the tests

EvoL +2

To answer your question, quackqucak, he R models become part of their press fleet, long term bikes, test bikes, etc. At least that's what I was told.

Here are pics from the press kit that cover the R in detail. Enjoy!
