As you press guys drove the new R in the USA, the first ones are delivered in Europe. Today I received my R. It is a stunning bike to see and drive. I noticed how freely it revs and more power in mid rpms. Although I didn't went past 7K. I drove 90km. I am very proud to have one of five here in my country.

Congrats, Patrick! Wait till you get to 12k RPM! Be ready to shift a few thousand RPM early, because a moment before you think you need to shift you'll already be at redline under WOT!

+1 on the pics, really nice! How's the write up coming along?

Doing my best on the write-up, but I've had so little time (still need to take my bike in to the dealer and deal with insurance). And these are the official pics, done by an extraordinary camera crew. Also really cool dudes.

Patrick

Why doesn't your bike have the new heat shield covering the rear cylinder???

I know this is an easy fix but I think they should have at least kept red the rim tape, better yet there should be gold magnesium Marchesinis on there stock.

Not my vid, Mavic. But brings back memories. The cameras the film crew put on my bike were facing me, not the track. I've edited a portion of the pics I took (the ones above, again, were the official Ducati press photos). And yes, some of them lacked the Termis. ??? No idea why.

Good work on the photos, Dennis. Very nice. Also the ones from the tower.

Dennis, in the manual I read about the Racing Evo 96450211B and Racing Pro exhaust. Difference is in the manifolds length. Are the Pro manifolds 96480161A optional? What did they tell you?

At startup my dash says Racing Evo. I have a couple of boxes at the dealership with all the stock parts. Not sure if there was an extra set of manifolds in there. I think it is optional. They are not in the 2013 accessories book.

A quick seat-of-the-pants impression: The difference between the S and the R are far greater than the spec sheets would suggest. The 12k RPM redline and the lighter engine components make a significant difference in the characteristics of the power and power delivery. I'm wondering if there also isn't some other wizardry that Ducati has not mentioned.

Yep, ought to feel pretty snappy. 1,330 grams (2.93lbs) less rotating/reciprocating mass spinning round in the engine at +/- 10K rpms, sans any other changes, would magnify the "pure" characteristics of the power delivery, meaning you'd feel the shape of the dyno curves more since there's less inertia in the system to serve as a kind of damper. Should spin up and down quicker, with less vibration, and create a bit more raw engine braking effect (before EBC), as well as make the bike feel a touch lighter in transitions with the engine spun up.

Interesting that the power spread doesn't look much broader if at all, they've just given it a bit of overrev with the 12K limit. Should be useful in reducing the need to shift as much, something twins suffer from in comparison to 4's.

Congrats on the experience, and to Ducati for providing it - well done all 'round! Not a lot of mortals get to sample such delicacies in venues like COTA; breathing some rare air there...

i think it will even become more obvious when you give this engine's cams the Superstock timings and adapted mapping..

i expect the Racing Pro to be available in the Corse Superstock option list. togehter with the loom and stuff... given the boost midrange, it soon will be a 'must have'

i'm happy the lighter engine part will rev better as at Aragon, going back to second sometimes was a bit to short and the 3 too long...

my rapidbike race module came in !

combine this all and we're heading 200 rwbhp + djeezes, pritty daunting, no?

can't wait , can't wait, can't wait.... :)
