OMG AH - thank you for NOTHING!!!! Now I really want it! Love the exhaust explanation, I wondered what the diff was. Glad I waited, this is on the top of the exahust list now.

It says "for R version only" so I guess you mean the R is at the top of the bike list now? :)
 
A quick seat-of-the-pants impression: The difference between the S and the R are far greater than the spec sheets would suggest. The 12k RPM redline and the lighter engine components make a significant difference in the characteristics of the power and power delivery. I'm wondering if there also isn't some other wizardry that Ducati has not mentioned.

Doesn't the R use a different engine map?
 
$64000 question... if you had software (Rexxer/TuneBoy) that would offer the ability to raise the rev limit of a non R bike.. would you?/ Could you??:confused:

Do they really mean that? Maybe just when you oder the bike from the dealer. It's just a pipe, it will fit on any 1199. Unless the added volume in those last 500 rpms needs less curving in the pipes, whereas it would be wasted on ours? :confused:

I wouldn't even entertain it... the reason they put the stronger internals in the "R" is because they were killing the motor under race conditions at the current rev limit of the S.

Raising it on the other models is a just going to speed up the process of killing your motor in a race situation.


By the way AntiHero... I need to express something to you.. Thank you SO much for what you have done during the press release. Your updates here and ESPECIALLY your twitter account is seriously kick ass. Thanks so very much dude. I was checking your twitter every 15 minutes and loving every second of it. Awesome. Ok.. end of nut swinging... you get it.

Gotta get the ...... q's out before you can belt out some good ones. I know there have been a few threads about that damned aero kit but for some reason it either seems like no one runs them or I just can't tell when it's on or off. Colorblindness, shape disability, severe alcoholism, no clue,

Those damn aero things are a mess. We never did figure out any ryhme or reason who/why gets them. So no telling here. Some Rs may, some Rs may not. I have had them for my Base since new (5/12), and may finally put them on so I will look like the R - but the red stripes give it away :)

Oh yeah--the aero kit. On some of the large posters Ducati had up the Aero kit appeared to be standard. Before seeing any bikes I myself wondered if that's the way the Rs would come from the factory, so it's not a stupid question at all. But the bikes we rode were not outfitted accordingly, so it will be an option just like on the S/Base.

This is Claudio Domenicali, one of the top ten most powerful guys in motorcycledom--and the head of Ducati Corse. He's extremely intense. He's also the guy who was forwarded an email to my thread on either Ducati.ms or ADV, which led to my invitation to the R launch. Did I mention he was intense? 99% of the time the only expression I witnessed was ferocity. This is a rare moment where the man, just for a moment, allowed himself a moment of satisfaction at what he's accomplished:
